humans colonizing Mars....
we need multiquote back

i wouldnt mind an internet connection with a couple terabyte bandwidth
.
i'm sure you wouldnt mind more conveniences, no?
plus, there might be an aids pill or a cure for cancer up there :eek3:
Well, its true.. Many countries that are friendly with the US did so because it was in their best economic interest to trade and stuff with America. Its not the Americans fault that they're too rich
.
Industries HAVE cleaned up a crapload since last century. So we're on the road to somewhere. Are you arguing that there wont be any pollution regulations up in space when we're on different planets?

No we didn't know about ozone and how pollution affects the earth but now that we do we don't even enforce the laws we have in place and instead just charge them a few extra bucks a year in fines and look the other way as though it never happened. Heaven forbid we hold industry as well as government liable for their actions. Why do you think the US didn't sign the Kyoto Treaty? Oh yeah because we are one of the single largest polluters in the nation and don't want to be held accountable for it.

There is low gravity on Mars as compared to earth, there's not "no gravity".

as for no vs. low gravity on mars, if there is enough gravity on mars to hold a human and the regular tools of life - from things as large as cars to things as small as toothpicks - down, i stand corrected. if there isnt, my point remains.... it wont be easy to go about our day to day tasks if we float.
Lots of points from both sides here. I personally don't think we'll ever inhabit mars, unless its on some kind space station or biodome. However, taking trips to Mars will get scientists to invent faster ways of getting there. Space travel will get faster, and faster. Before you know it they'll be manned space craft traveling out of this solar system.

aside from human life not prospering on a planet with little to zero water and oxygen, plant life (vegetables to EAT) and animals (meat to EAT) would also have a difficult time prospering.

Am I saying that there won't be regulations on Mars...no not at all in fact the opposite, but after seeing how enforceable it is on earth what gives me any hope that it will be more enforced on Mars?
All I have to go on is the current and past record in order to make my call on the situation

hahaha or rover just happens upon a little bottle of pills on mars

no, i do see that as a possibility, a mineral or something up there that could be a medical breakthrough, i will admit that potential..but we must also recognize the potential for negative results.... perhaps disease or minerals that could result in the destruction of life as we know it...

.I say we just place all the industry on Mars in Japan's hands. They like to make things clean and efficient

Have you seen the videos of people walking on the moon? They can and do. Yes they have a very springy step and can float for a good distance but they can still work like normal.
Mars is a good bit bigger than the moon too. So mars has more than the moon in terms of gravity. Not as much as earth.
