spend 7 years working a restaraunt and come try this again

there's nothing you hate more than being about ready to close and having 4 people walk in and sit down and start ordering drinks and meals and making you stay an hour later than you were supposed to.

it happens way to much, it's simply common sense.

I know thats my point, wouldn't it be easier to close at 9:30 then when someone walks in at 9:28 no one is furious? (assuming it takes half an hour to feed someone).

The employees just feel like time of close means the time they leave. I think thats wrong. When I worked food service, we were scheduled like 1.5 hours after close, so I didn't mind at all.

the logic is flawed simply because then what if someone walks in at 9:28

still pissed

the fact of the matter is you will always have people walk in right at close no matter what time you close

keith's example is a little different imo though because there the employees are still gonna be there after food service stops because the place is still open.

no-no thats my point, if you close earlier than when you want to leave who cares? Especially if you still leave at 10. People always try to pack up and shit to get out as early as possible -- I got paid by the hour so I never understood. I mean each customer = more money. Thats why I'm working. To make money. Its not like I knew we were going to get out early so whatever plans I made are still made around my 10pm closing.

But I'm arguing that peoples mindsets can change when I really know they can't. I'm just saying "ideally" and unfortunately I am that asshole that comes in 2 minutes before close

 at leaving when the door is locked

i've never seen someone able to just leave when you close. its just the principle that now you have to add at least 30 minutes to an hour on to the time you were supposed to work till

like if i close my kitchen at 10 i usually get out by 11 or 1130. if someone walks in at 9:50 odds are i'm not getting out of there till 12 or 1230.

it just comes down to common sense and being polite. you wouldnt walk in to a business and demand a service at 10 to close that takes a hour so why would you walk into a restaraunt at 10 to close and want to sit down to a nice meal and enjoy yourself for 45 minutes holding up all employees in the place

well, I don't demand. I ask politely and I've never been refused -- but I never make super radical requests either. And if you schedule it correctly you'll leave at the correct time (or earlier) every time.
