it's called campaigning. no politician is going to admit defeat before an election, even when the odds are stacked against them. how are fawk they lying or covering things up when they say something like "i'm confident that we will prevail"? :screwy: the democrats were saying the same things, so what if they had lost? then they'd be the liars who try to cover things up?

Our involvement in WW2 lasted 3 yrs and 8 months. The Iraq war has now lasted 3 yrs and 8 months and has not yet ended. We entered WW2 when Pearl Harbor was bombed.

Not quite as long as our direct involvment in WW2, but pretty close.
Might want to double check your math. March to November is 8 months not 6.

dude we started involvement in WWII in 1939...we werent directly fighting until '41. but we def had chosen sides in '39 and were doing everything except pulling the trigger.

only reason we werent involved sooner was because hitler was smart enough not to come after us until he had dealt with the UK, unfortently his table was moved forward because japan decided to provoke us.

and for the record u said its lasted longer than WWII not we were directly involved longer

Yeah and we have been involved in the Middle east since the late 60s/early 70s.

So whats your point here and how does it relate to the discussion?

actually we didn't declare war on germany until hitler declared war on us 3 days after pearl harbor...for no apparent reason. No one knows exactly why he did it, but he could have avoided it and we may have never landed troops in Europe or waited longer than we did to.

March 19, 2003 to end of 2003 = 9 months, 11 days
2004= 12 months
2005= 12 months
Jan '06 to November 8, 2006 = 10 months, 8 days

43 months 19 days. 3 years, 7 months, 19 days. I did miss a month in there, but not two. Let's split the difference.

my whole point was i didnt realize we were talking direct action length

he stated that this iraq war is longer than wwII...

hitler declared war in 1939, treaties were signed in 1945...six years
iraq war just shy of 4.

thats my only point

we also had no problems bombing the hell out of anything in our path. collateral damage? yes, please. did you forget about little boy and fat man?

oh, how about the little fact that there were over 24 MILLION military deaths, and over 32 MILLION civilian deaths (excluding holocaust victims)?

in iraq, however, we have to pussyfoot around everything lest we feel the mighty wrath from everyone opposed to this war. and the casualties? a drop in the bucket compared to WW2.

in other words, stop comparing apples and oranges.

i would think the fact that he was allied with japan and japan was openly at war with the US would be reason enough:hsdunno:

oh we would have landed in troops in europe all right...because hitler would not have stopped with europe.
