I know it was something I had to do to feed my family and pay bills.
I got a lot of respect for that! Although I may not like it, I would do whatever it takes for my family. to you!

Edit: and congrats....sounds like you are doing pretty well now.

I agree with Mike, if you are having a hard time paying bills then any job is better than no job. My sister in law worked as a bank teller for a while until she found something in her field.

They just finished building a community with houses that have 3 car garages! **EDIT** And I know I'm only 20 minutes from you. But you are surrounded by Wrightsville, Hellam, and Hanover. You may have to go more east or west like Gettysburg or Centerville.

Also it's all who you know and who can help you too. You cannot do all the advertising by yourself. You need to have family members and close friends hand out business cards, pamplets, etc. When I 1st started my business I was doing all the work. Now my students, their parents and friends help me hand out business cards and recommendations. It's gotten alot easier.

Mandi - also realize that most businesses don't take off right away. It's something like 90% of small businesses fail. But like 50% of the failure is finding that niche and advertsing (also being in the right place at the right time).

My schools wouldn't be doing this well if I was in say downtown Lancaster. To go to a martial arts school is mainly middle class to upper middle class type people. Not saying that lower class are not suited, but it's the extra income that helps.

If you are that broke and desparate there's nothing wrong with McDonalds. Heck I was assistant manager at Burger King for a couple of years to help pay bills and for school.

It's not like it's beneath you. It's a JOB that pays money, which can pay bills until you can get back on your feet. Heck last year I was 1st sweating my ass off working at the car wash in Centerville, and then freezing my ass off when winter came around. I made $200-300/week when my schools only had 4-5 students. I know it was something I had to do to feed my family and pay bills.
...but i'm not trying to start my own business. I'm trying to get hired elsewhere. I don't have the funds to start my own business...to fnd a place, to get the permits and licenses, to make sure it's up to scale as far as health codes etc, to advertise...there's no possibly way i could even consider it at this point. It's ultimately what i want to do, and i wish i could do it rght now, but for now, i'm just looking to get hired somewhere.

There are PLENTY of spas/salons/healthcare clinics here in York and the surrounding towns...the problem is that none of them want to or need to hire someone else, or they want me to have a clientel built up already..which i can't do when i have no where to build my client base.

and McDonalds is still out of the question. h:

I would rather work as a teller than work in a grease pit...and i have looked into working at a bank. The problem is that, in order to do that, i have to take tests and pass all their screening crap before I'm hired...by the time that happens, it'll be January.

Try looking into Sears, Walmart, etc and work as a sales person. I know guys with dual degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering working at Walmart of BK because they need the money.

I have. I've been applying at the mall..and I'm getting know where..

I sort of think that the almost 2 year unemployeed gap on my resume and application is what is causing the problem. I have retail and customer service experience. I mean i worked in a billng office and had old people calling me bitching at me b/c their bills were so high...i dealt with that, i can deal with the general public.

If you really want the help... then PM or email me your resume and I will have some people I know look at it and get back with suggestions. Verbage on the resume is very important, as is format.

Last but not least... networking... very key in finding a job.

Nope, none of those things you mentioned would prevent a car dealership from hiring you.

The dealership I worked at over the summer had a few women sales people. They did fine by themselves. One of em was even a complete dunce and didn't know jack about the cars but still managed to sell a decent number of cars.

Aside from the long hours it's an easy job and pays more than decent if you're good at it. Plus you don't really need any sort of qualifications whatsoever. Getting hired at a car dealership is of equivalent difficulty to flippin burgers.
