You may have to go more east or west like Gettysburg or Centerville.

Also it's all who you know and who can help you too. You cannot do all the advertising by yourself. You need to have family members and close friends hand out business cards, pamplets, etc. When I 1st started my business I was doing all the work. Now my students, their parents and friends help me hand out business cards and recommendations. It's gotten alot easier.

Mandi - also realize that most businesses don't take off right away. It's something like 90% of small businesses fail. But like 50% of the failure is finding that niche and advertsing (also being in the right place at the right time).

My schools wouldn't be doing this well if I was in say downtown Lancaster. To go to a martial arts school is mainly middle class to upper middle class type people. Not saying that lower class are not suited, but it's the extra income that helps.

If you are that broke and desparate there's nothing wrong with McDonalds. Heck I was assistant manager at Burger King for a couple of years to help pay bills and for school.

It's not like it's beneath you. It's a JOB that pays money, which can pay bills until you can get back on your feet. Heck last year I was 1st sweating my ass off working at the car wash in Centerville, and then freezing my ass off when winter came around. I made $200-300/week when my schools only had 4-5 students. I know it was something I had to do to feed my family and pay bills.
...but i'm not trying to start my own business. I'm trying to get hired elsewhere. I don't have the funds to start my own business...to fnd a place, to get the permits and licenses, to make sure it's up to scale as far as health codes etc, to advertise...there's no possibly way i could even consider it at this point. It's ultimately what i want to do, and i wish i could do it rght now, but for now, i'm just looking to get hired somewhere.

There are PLENTY of spas/salons/healthcare clinics here in York and the surrounding towns...the problem is that none of them want to or need to hire someone else, or they want me to have a clientel built up already..which i can't do when i have no where to build my client base.

and McDonalds is still out of the question. h:
