yeah, its essentially the same thing. Know the product, know the customer, and you're golden.

h:Man, full service residential brokers around here (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) typically make around 3.5% on a listing and 2.5% on a sale - of course about 1/2 of that goes to the "house", but if you own the "house" you are good to go. Any way you slice it, there is potential for decent money if you are good at it.

Also it's all who you know and who can help you too. You cannot do all the advertising by yourself. You need to have family members and close friends hand out business cards, pamplets, etc. When I 1st started my business I was doing all the work. Now my students, their parents and friends help me hand out business cards and recommendations. It's gotten alot easier.
Mandi - also realize that most businesses don't take off right away. It's something like 90% of small businesses fail. But like 50% of the failure is finding that niche and advertsing (also being in the right place at the right time).
My schools wouldn't be doing this well if I was in say downtown Lancaster. To go to a martial arts school is mainly middle class to upper middle class type people. Not saying that lower class are not suited, but it's the extra income that helps.

It's not like it's beneath you. It's a JOB that pays money, which can pay bills until you can get back on your feet. Heck last year I was 1st sweating my ass off working at the car wash in Centerville, and then freezing my ass off when winter came around. I made $200-300/week when my schools only had 4-5 students. I know it was something I had to do to feed my family and pay bills.
