The access point should be hooked up the WAN port on the router. Then configure the access point to get it's signal from the router downstairs (channel, SSID, WEP, etc..) and have the router set to obtain IP automatically ('cause your downstairs router connected to the DSL modem should already be taking care of the PPoE crap).

Wouldn't it have just been easier to get a wireless PCI card for your PC and hook the access point to that?
I configured it all like you said but still getting nothing:thinking: :happysad:

Do I have to clone the mac id from the AP for the router maybe?

did you connect the access point straight to your PC to see if you could get a signal...then we'll know if it's a router configuration problem or not.
If you don't get a signal that way either, take the access point to the basement and use it on a PC there, see if you can get a signal.

one in basement to transmit wireless signal, one in room to distribute signal to 3 PCs.

just making sure. basically using it as a switch then. is the second router hooked up to the network already? i think the WAP has to be hooked into a live network, not get used to connect two points. so the wap would be plugged into the router downstairs for you to get signal upstairs. i believe that's the point of the wap (make a wired network wireless, not extend a wireless network).

ok, i looked it up. it has to be in bridging mode. but it looks to me like it needs another wap to connect to (not sure if the router would do it). here's what i'm going off of. http://www.linksys.com/products/disp...id=501&scid=35

how do I test it? to hook it up directly I have to use a x-over cable correct?

Looks like either one of those modes will do.
