No. You must use a B-series cable transaxle, preferably an YS1 (RS/LS/GS) for boost or a YS1 (GS-R) for NA, if you can find one. A cheaper run-of-the-mill B16 (first gen cable, of course) transaxle would work fine.
also what do i have to do when it comes to wiring? can i keep my si ecu or will i have to use the ls ecu?
The stock harness can be modified to work. The Si ECU can theoretically run a B18A, however it will run very weak. The 90-91 PR4 (OBD-0 Integra RS/LS/GS) would be ideal.

BTW, no one has answered my question yet

I have an 86 DX, I wanna get a better engine and swap it in. Which one is easy and inexpensive? It's currently a 1.5l, 5 sp, carburated. I love the car alot and the original motor has not died with 260k on it. I am just thinking of when it eventually does. I would love to keep it 4 ever. Was the best $400 I ever spent. I bought it in July of 2000.

From there you have two options. You could swap to a fuel injected set-up using the 12v non-CVCC head from an 85-87 CRX Si or an 86-87 Civic Si. This would also nessecitate swapping every other FI part... wiring harnesses, ECU, fuel lines, fuel tank, intake manifold, all the sensors, enough stuff to make you want to repeatedly slam your head into a brick wall. If that doesn't satisfy you, you can pull the entire engine, transaxle, axles, knuckles, and ECU in favor of a D16A1 from an 86-89 Integra or a "browntop" ZC from a EDM or JDM 1.6i-16 (their premium 3rd generation Civic chassis) or 85-88 Integra in addition to the FI swap. There are carb'ed "browntop" ZC engines out there, it is an easier swap for a carb'ed civic, however it will be very difficult to locate one.

you have a dx with dpfi so any other engine you'd move to would require some wiring to make it mpfi like in a d16a6 motor...but for another auto tranny...keep the one you have and just replace the engine

i'd suggest converting over your car to a manual...which i hear is not too hard but i've never done it personally

Yes, there is a SOHC VTEC ZC, very similar to the D16Z6 SOHC VTEC.

Yes, it is. The earliest recognized ZC was the "Browntop" DOHC non-VTEC. It was essentailly the same as the next generation's "Blacktop" ZC, except for the easily identifiable brown painted valve cover, a slightly different intake manifold, a vacuum advance distributor, and motor mount placement. After those two came the SOHC VTEC ZC, basically a D16Z6 with a few minor differences.

The three major ZC's came in different generations-

"Browntop" ZC= DOHC non-VTEC, 84-87, pre-OBD Third generation Civic
"Blacktop" ZC= DOHC non-VTEC, 88-91, OBD-0 Fourth generation Civic
SOHC ZC= SOHC VTEC= 92-95, OBD-1, Fifth generation Civic

Those were the most common useages, however not the only cars they were used in.
