Post Questions about engine swaps.
alright seriously....what is a brown top zc.... and where can i get one and what do i need for efficient installation ...do i need a new tranny or anythin like that.....its for an 86 crx si....and i need to know fast so i can either buy it now or find out how much more $$ i need to sav up
A Browntop ZC is exactly that... "browntop" meaning it has a brown valve cover. It comes from JDM 1983-1986 Civic and CRX 1.6i-16 models, their version of the Si. It is identical to EDM D16A8/9 engines, and similar to US 86-89 Integra D16A1 engines. It is very different form the Blacktop ZC that all the 88-91 guys use.
Browntop ZC swaps are very uncommon. You would probably have to call up an importer and special order one. The Browntop ZC is rated at 135hp. You could also use a D16A1 from an 86-87 Integra, however it is only rated at 112hp.
The swap needs, bare bones, a complete engine with harness, and one of the Integra control boxes. Swapping in an Integra ECU would be nice, but not required, and requires more parts to work right. Your transaxle will work fine with it. The Integra trasaxle can also be swapped in, but you need the axles and hubs from an Integra to do it.

BTW, on an interesting note, Honda has made engines with brown, gold, blue, red and traditional black valve covers. Neat, huh?

^ that was in reference to ...Does the 89 Integra ZC 1.6L non V-tec bolt right up to the 1991 Honda Civic Si HB trans and engine mounts? Also do the a/c, altenator, and power steering swamp from the stock motor to the ZC? Thanx

I just recently had a b16 installed in my 91 CRX Si they used Hasport shift linkage and mounts and a ys1 LSD tranny and ACT street strip clutch. Everyhting seemed fine until they let it off stands and it will not go in any gear when the car is running it just grinds when you try. But you can turn the car off and it will shift through the gears fine? You can put it in gear and turn the car on and it will roll. Any ideas?
thanks

i think your clutch cable may have broke or is so loose it is not engaging the clutch causing you to grind gears when you try to shift with the engine running...i doubt if the shift linkage is bad as you can get it into gear without the car running

Seriously?
