the "bracket" isnt a bracket, its a small, plastic enclosure... actually has a port too, i'm guessing they actually took their time and designed the proper size enclosure for the speaker. The enclosure cannot be trimmed to make a 6 1/2 fit... trust me... they made it so a 5 1/4 wont even fit. Go to that honda parts site I mentioned before... do a 93 LX (not EX, as it shows the parts specific to the model) sedan, then go to "radio-antenna speaker" you'll see the speaker pods listed as #1... only a couple bucks a piece... then you'll be able to mount 6 1/2's like they were meant to be there!

The bass output from Alpines will be 10 times that of the stock speakers... what kind of shyt do they smoke over there?!?! The stock speakers are thin, untreated paper cones with fabric surrounds and a tiny little magnet, nothing that can produce very much bass at all... the Alpines will have a poly cone (I think) with a durable rubber surround... a much more powerfull magnet... and is actually designed for quality sound reproduction... As much as I love Boston, I would say the Alpines may have a little more bass than Boston.

I still say go with the Alpine's... seeing you can get them for that price, i'm sure you'll be more than happy with them. You'll also get a little extra bass output, and be able to play them louder with less distortion if you add a 4 channel amp... even something running 25 watts RMS x4 will make a big improvement over deck power.

Wow, that is a really helpful site. Thanks! Did that guy who did the switch mention if it was an easy modification? (Sorry, I'm just starting out in the audio realm) Here's another question -- the mounting depth on the Alpines for the front is fine, but the height is 13/16 of an inch, instead of the stock 0". Will a different grill solve that problem, or isn't it an issue? ie, do they give enough room to allow that?

Installing the new bracket is a matter of taking the door panels off (has to be done to change the speakers) and then 4 philips screws that hold the "enclosure" to the door... its not hard at all... then you'll need the wire that runs inside the "box" for the new speakers... for that you just have to take the stock speakers out of their boxes and detach the wire... not hard at all.

If you like, I can post directions as to how to take the door panels off.

As for the speaker's physical size, Crutchfield lists the top mounting depth as 1-13/16"... dosent mention anything about tweeter protusion. They list the pair as an EZ-fit for a 93 LX, so that means changing to the LX brackets in your EX will allow the speakers to fit without a problem. Putting them in your accord will not require any grilles, as the stock grilles in the car are all thats needed.

If you're thinking the Alpines and your budget is $200, you might consider upgrading your fronts to something better. I've been told a few times that the rear is mainly for fill and more money should be spent on the front. When I was upgrading my speakers they even suggested I leave the stock ones in the back. I didn't listen to them, but that's just what I heard.

i agree
instead of spending all your money on 4 speakers of mediocre quality, invest in a very good front stage.

200 bucks can get you a decent front stage

a good solid cheap setup (which I have)

crystal mobile sound components (140 on sounddomain for either 5.25 or 6.5 comps)
and USX 2080 amp (85 bucks on sounddomain)
all you need it an amp kit

if thats too much, you can even get a set of infinity reference components (not that bad) for 96-100 bucks depending on size.

Get Alpine Type-R componants in the front and Alpine Type-S in the back. I stress componants for the front because it sounds a helluvalot better with the highs coming from up top rather than down below. (that is if accords have door speakers and not dash speakers.)

This is what I was going to do before I decided to get Type-Rs coaxials in the back as well.

These are 2 way speakers.

Why don't you check out Pioneer Premiers? I was looking at those before I decided on Alpine Type-Rs. To me they sounded pretty bright. I personally felt the Type-Rs sounded more full so I went with them, but, your tastes could be different. Pioneer Premiers are cheaper also. They're also 3 way (note that for 2 ways and 3 ways that are equal price, the 2 ways will be higher quality since 2 ways are harder to make)

Well, there goes my 69 post count...

pioneer premiers suck, dont waste your time.

I agree that components up front makes a huge difference... but unless you're going to invest in an amp to power them too, they are pretty much a waste. And if you're gonna spend $200 or less on components, you wont notice that much of a difference... to get good components, you gotta shell out some real cash, and have some decent power going to them.

If you're gonna stick to the $200 budget, get the alpines for front and rear... or save up more money. And dont leave the stock speakers in the back with components in the front, it really sounds like ****.
