I've got to disagree. I'm running off of deck power with my Alpines and I notice plenty. The kind of change I'm talking about is so drastic you have to be tone deaf to not notice it.

If you're saying Pioneer Premier suck are you also saying Pioneers suck? I personally think Premiers sounded much crisper than regular Pioneers, but, I guess it's all a matter of opinion as to what people think sounds good and what doesn't.

Go listen to them and spend to the point where you can't tell the difference in the sound or what your budget will allow.

Yeah, I think leaving in your stock speakers is a bad idea. The people at the shop said I could pull it off but I went ahead and replaced them anyway. Your stock speakers are probably just some paper cones that, since 1993, have warped to hell. Mine were so warped they looked like someone had put them through the washer and drier.

and if you play your music loud you've probably already melted the tweeters in the components.

I personally don't know how underpowering your speakers could cause speakers to heat up. Please explain?

If I go up to a certain volume my sound distorts. If my deck goes over 50C it automatically kills the power, and if not, the fuse cuts off.

I used to have all stock speakers in my 94 4 door accord lx until i replaced the fronts with infinity ref605cs components. All i can say is holy ****e...it was a HUGE improvement over stock speakers and im still just running about 16 watts RMS off the head unit and ONE rear stock speaker (blew the other). I play my music pretty freakin loud and no distortion at all from the front components (powered by a 4 year old alpine unit 16 watts RMS). The key to not "underpowering" speakers is not to automatically get an amp when you upgrade, but look at the power rating for what you want. My infinity's say 2-90 watts rms. Thats a good range for using either headunit or amp. Now if you shell out the cast for expensive stuff like top line MB quart, their stuff says something like 50-150 rms which means you WILL need an amp. Unless you plan on making a competition system i suggest getting some infinity components or ones with a wide range for RMS power.

BTW im getting some infinity 6x9 three way coaxials and once i get those installed ill let you know how "useful" back speakers really are.

The distortion I'm getting so far is due to the deck over heating. I was playing it pretty loud and it gradually started sounding like shyt. It only does this after about 45 minutes at deafening volume. I definitely need an amp, and a sub for that matter... sounds tinny.

in my experience. getting an amp plus new speakers (asuming you have a head unit) is the best upgrade.

as far as other speakers to reccomend.
ikesound sells infinity reference comps for cheap. if your tight on cash those are a great buy

polk audio for sure. they have a bit of a different sound that you may not like but to me, these are some of the best speakers out there. they put out a more sharp sound but i dont know how they sound for bass really. the kid i know that has them also has a full system with two subs in it. dont worry too much about the brackets unless your going to install yourself.

if you are planning on eventually getting any sort of subs i wouldnt worry about the bass thats coming out of my speakers too much. the polk (although im not 100% sure) should be more then ample with bass.

i dont know if the deal is still running but remember that circut city is running a buy one get one 50% off on all the polk speakers as well, this could help you out a lot, seeing how their top of the line speakers are $500 for the whole 6 speaker set

I installed my infinity 6x9 3 ways in the back yesterday and heres my conclusion: It really picks up the mid-bass lacking from the front and adds some rear fill but it also sounds a little off-stage. Before, i had the back 2 stock ones disconnected and it sounds a little better like that for the driver. I think it has to do with sound delay, but once i get my alpine cda-7894 with time corrections, itll be all good....

I used to have Polks in my car but I blew them so now I have Infiniti. Its true Polks do sound different, they have sharper highs to them, but one thing I have noticed about Polks is that the bass that you have running to them gradually gets weaker as the speaker gets older. After a year or two it wont be able to reproduce the bass notes hardly as good as it did before. I havent noticed this on the Infinitis. I like the way the Infinitis sound better than the Polks.
