I haven't read the whole thread but imho you can't go wrong with infinity's, I'm running 605cs 6 1/2's with 1" tweeters and crossover off my regular headunit and I love them, I'm about to throw a equalizer and amp at 75watts rms a piece, I can't wait. I think right now you can find a pair of em for 80-100 bucks off ebay. worth every penny

I have had very good luck with my infinity refrence. They sound good andd were not that much. Alpine makes good speakers but i think they make better amps than speakers. But infinity is the best for the money.

Good, that partially answers another question of mine. I was wondering if I should buy an Alpine amp or go with something else. I don't want to pay much if I get it now along with my speakers, so is Alpine's low-end stuff as good as some other maker's mid-range product?
