Aren't we taking this a lil too far? Toyota, OK. Nissan, alright. But I draw the line @ a domestic, especially Ford. There is no way you can say, even w/ your bad experience, that a Ford equals or exceeds the quality of an import! Pigs must be flying somewhere if that is the case...

seeing how my garage has four 6th gen accords, yes four, i have noticed:
-50% clock going out
-25% tranny problem
-50% sunroof rattling or serious problems
-100% unsatisfactorily weak paint
-50% gas meter/sensor defect
out of three ex v-6's and one 4-cyl.

Ooo. yeah i forgot about that. one of my accords (mine) has had the cruise light go out. but the dealership replaced it for free so i'm happy. the service at most locations is pretty decent...
...now when you're a 16-year old kid with $26k wandering around the lot, then it's different and you get crap service.

I'm super happy with my 5th gen and think it was a better route.
I used to have 6th gen accord too. The problem I had are minor:
-the sunroof rattling
-build quality issue (side molding comes off for no reason)
-light in the clock
I don't think that many Hondas have tranny problems but keep in mind to check your car carefully though. At least you have precautions.
I have a friend what at the time bought a 98 V6 auto. He test drove it and everything went well. Even though we knew that there's tranny problem, he thought it's only a minor problem and it's a honda , supposed to be reliable. After few months, tranny starting to act weird, even till now. The tranny likes to 'jump' between shifts, especially when it's still cold. And soemtimes it even stalls. I'm not saying that honda is not reliable, but just be careful and check everything closely. I think Honda is still one of the most reliable car company out there, but you can't deny that there are still going to be some lemon honda.

2K Accord Ex V6 Coupe.......the list:
1. Rattle coming from center console - dealer removed front part of interior until they traced it to a slightly large plastic mold on the right side. Filed down, rattle went away
2. Mark on the inside of the guage cluster panel glass - dealer installed new glass.
3. Sunroof rattle - dealer removed sunshade and fixed the issue (wires hanging down apparently).
4. Transmission - yes, now you all know someone who had the issue. Started at 1500 miles (yes, a brand new Honda with 1500 miles and a bad tranny). Brought to dealer......dealer rode in car with me 50 feet, it made the noise, they ordered a tranny. Tranny was on backorder because they were (at the time) trying to determine the fix. After being told "2 weeks" twice, I got "pissed off" (not really) enough to call Honda Customer Care. They gave me an extended warranty, and oddly enough the next day my tranny arrived. Dealer gave me a loaner and kept my Accord for a day.........replaced tranny is running fine, 34K miles later. I got a letter from Customer Care as proof of my extended warranty. I also got the letter extending the tranny warranty to 7/100.
I wont buy American, and I wont buy a Toyota. The only car makers Ive seen stand up for their customers and their products are Honda and Nissan. So Ill buy a Honda, Acura, Nissan or Infiniti.
Picking a new car is hella easier when you only have 4 brands to look at

I got werid noises from the passanger side and the sunroof, @ 20k my Clock light went out, @30K my Fuel Light Stays ON all the time something might be stuck on the gauge in the tank... My Auto tranny still good. Thats about it hopefully nothing else.
I have an 02' 5-spd EX w/ 10,500 miles on the clock. So far the problems are typical and minor (IMO)
- Rattling sunroof (w/ the cover open)
- Rotors need to be turned/replaced (very slightly warped)
- Driver's seat squeaks ever so slightly when it's as low as it can go. (I'm 6'3", so I like to have the seat in the lowest position).
As far as the autotranny goes... don't know what to say. IMO, that's pretty typical of ANY automatic. I've never had an automatic even last 100K. No offence intended in any way, Vick, but check out a random sampling of transmission shops sometime. I can almost guarenty you that 90% of the cars on the lot are automatics, most have less than 100K and they almost always represent a plethora of manufacturers, including Honda and Toyota. I say this living less than a mile away from an AAMCO and a Cottman shop.

Honda generally has excellent transmission life, IF THE FLUID IS CHANGED REGULARLY! We recommend EVERY 15K for autos, and ONLY with the Honda ATF... Honda used to recommend the same, but they are starting to change what the owner's manuals say. The auto tranny in my wife's 98 Sedan is working just great at 137,000 miles.
