The dealer in ? must be a tight as prick..no afence to you BTW.
Honda can track the last tiny small as bolt on the tranny.
They know the day-hour-minute your endcaps got torqued to spec if need be. They know the exact day your tires were made and mounted stock.
They know when and if shift changed happened while building your car.
They (Honda) sure as hell knows the stock OE Radio code via the VIN# every single thing about the build of your car dates back to the VIN#.

Dealers making you pull the radio must be pricks that just want to give you a hard time. My dealer made me a spare key based on my VIN# they didn't even ask to see my stock key, if they can cut a key from the VIN# do you think they can reset the radio?

I'm not meaning to rant BTW...I saying this all happy like.

What if the radio in the car is stock, but not the original one that came from the factory with the car. Sometimes people have their cars with their aftermarket decks, and decide to sell the car, but don't want to sell the deck with it, so they buy a used one somewhere (junkyard, ebay, friend, etc.), and put that one into the car. And maybe they overlook getting the code, or giving it to the new owner. And the new owner disconnects the battery sometime, and needs the code?

Its just a thought, but sometimes the VIN# isn't always going to match up with the radio in the car. But as for cutting the key based on the VIN#, thats true! I've seen it myself.

for a 5TH GEN accord:
NO NEED to take it to a dealer to get the radio code!

(1) pull out the ASH TRAY (no need to remove any screws, just pull it and it comes right out).

(2) there is a sticker on the back with your 5 digit code written on it. (at least there is for my accord - it's a 1997 special edition). once you reconnect your battery, your radio will say "code". punch these 5 digits in using the radio preset buttons. that's all there is to it. you may want to look for this code on the back of the ashtray before you disconnect your battery to make sure you have it. i hear another place it can be hidden is in or behind the glove compartment.

Here's the problem I had about three years ago, I bought a deck off ebay, the damn fool scammed me and I think it was a hot deck as it looked as if someone had ripped it out (literally, as all the mounting braces off the deck where bent and tore up). I called Houston police first to see if I can get a police rep to visit this member, and they basically where about as much help as an ice maker in Alaska. Then called local police, again no help. So I called Honda of america, tried pleading my case, but they said they have no way of figuring out what deck a car was installed into. They told me they can tell you what kind of deck was originally in the vehicle based on VIN#, but radio numbers, they don't keep track of. The unit is still sitting at home pretty much useless so if anyone wanna buy this CD/Cassette combo...pretty much the CD unit powers up, but won't accept CDs, and the cassette lord only knows, never tested it. Any offers are accepted (and no I won't pay you to take it off my hands either).

go to radiocodes.com or radio-codes.com; you can get the code w/the yr/make/model and the radio's serial number (and some money, of course: $38)
