Perhaps without affirmative action, I wouldn't get into the college of my choice...b/c my SAT score is low (due to lack of resource) or I don't have enough extra curricula activities (b/c I was working to help my family out).

i did not study for my ACT, i went to public school, and im lower middle class, i scored a 28. saying that its got anything to do with race is a copout. black people say they're no different than whites except for their skin colour...than prove it. We went to the same school, ate the same food, watched the same tv and read the same books...thats flat out BS.
but i digress.

basically, those standardized tests reflect the dominant culture, which is White Americans. WOOPs..aren't you white Fuji?
Did you go to a ghetto school where theres no AP classes offer? Did you go to a school where teachers are unqualified? Did you even see how schools are in south central LA?
Trust me, it's a lot different here in the west coast.

Do you hear gun shots every night?
Or kids bringing weapons to school?
Already this month, there are 19 shootings in south central LA that is gang related.
How can one study in that kind of atmosphere? How can one even think that there is hope if they are surrounded with such negativity?
How do I know?
Because I go to school with the kids who grew up in those areas...first hand experience beats anything else!

I did, however, get accepted to WSU (Washington State University) under the same qualifications... but only because I'm 1/4 Native American...
Affirmative action has made it unethical and almost illegal for scholarships to cater to a non-minority group, but makes it ok to have things (for examples only) like the black college fund, filipino-american ass'n scholarships, etc. You will not find a scholarship competition that limits it's qualified applicants as hetero-sexual caucasian males.
Affirmative action is also the reason why there are more women in college nationally than men... because women are considered a social minority, and therefore are granted special priviledge for scholarship funds, contests, etc...
I am not agains affirmative action in it's intent, however I am very against the way it has been implemented...

there is crime in other places besides s. central LA. i used to live in one of the roughest areas in milwaukee too. I was jumped by three guys about a half mile from my house, they took my free cell phone, bus pass, and all of the seven dollars i had:roll eyes:. A man was shot to death on the very bus stop that i waited on everyday to go to work. my point is that there are areas like south central in every metropolitan city, just not as large scale.
