there is crime in other places besides s. central LA. i used to live in one of the roughest areas in milwaukee too. I was jumped by three guys about a half mile from my house, they took my free cell phone, bus pass, and all of the seven dollars i had:roll eyes:. A man was shot to death on the very bus stop that i waited on everyday to go to work. my point is that there are areas like south central in every metropolitan city, just not as large scale.

Lucky for me, I didn't go to my public high school or else I would have witnessed similar situations.
I agree that of course there are areas similar to south central but I used that example b/c i live around there and I am more similar with situations there.
However, you can't deny that in general, the ghetto areas are populated with the majority of people being African Americans and Latinos...
b_dyche - I agree that sometimes, political programs are not implemented the way it is supposed to be...but overall, it is a good program. I am taking this class called "the rights and wrong of aff. action" and I have looked at both sides of the story. I used to be against aff. action, but now based on what I learned and debated in class, I think that aff. action is overall a good program.
And in terms of aff. action making it unethical and blah blah....my response to that is that the qualifications for most of the scholardships that are not race oriented are based on grades, achievement, community service and etc, something that the racial minority groups sometimes don't qualified for.
I'm so sorry I went off-topic...if anybody want to debate about this with me, feel free to IM me..but I think we should stick to the tax topic =P

I did, however, get accepted to WSU (Washington State University) under the same qualifications... but only because I'm 1/4 Native American...
Affirmative action has made it unethical and almost illegal for scholarships to cater to a non-minority group, but makes it ok to have things (for examples only) like the black college fund, filipino-american ass'n scholarships, etc. You will not find a scholarship competition that limits it's qualified applicants as hetero-sexual caucasian males.
Affirmative action is also the reason why there are more women in college nationally than men... because women are considered a social minority, and therefore are granted special priviledge for scholarship funds, contests, etc...
I am not agains affirmative action in it's intent, however I am very against the way it has been implemented...

Do you hear gun shots every night?
Or kids bringing weapons to school?

don't try to play the race card, yeah ive had a pretty good life, but i've struggled too, and being inconvenienced by my colour is the exact reason that affirmative action was started...its bloated, its gone being helpful and into the realm of "politically correct" or whatever nonsense. yeah, racism is shitty elsewhere but seriosuly, can you look at a college application and say, "this here steven white" is a black man? probably not. the fact is they're going to the same school, being taught by the same "whities" writing the tests, so its really a terribly irrelevant topic.
