Personally, I don't like the kimber or any of the other 1911 remakes. I just never like the way a 1911 felt in my hand. I would take a glock or a Sig any day over the kimber, or the USP for that fact. If you're having problems with double feeds on a glock, 9 times out of 10 youre limp wristing the gun a little bit. Glocks are highly succeptible (sp?) to that. Try a glock .45, like the 21, 30, 0r 36. the 21 is the full sized, the 30 the compact, or the 36 is the sub compact. We carry a 19 as our duty weapon, and are only allowed to carry a 26 off duty. The subcompact glocks are easily concealable, people don't realize that I'm carrying even if i'm only wearing a t-shirt. But getting used to a gun is all about training with it.

All that said, for off duty carry, I would get the smaller version of whatever it is that you carry at work. Same caliber. I wouldn't swap around too much, because if it comes to a life or death situation, you already know the weapon from your many hours of training, its just a little smaller, and all the controls are in the same place.

The thing is, I'm not too crazy about my service weapon. Its a S&W 5906. As long as I've had it, I've never been crazy about it...theres just something about the feel of it that I don't like, but theres nothing I can do about it because thats what we're required to carry. I don't think I'd want a smaller version of it. Maybe I'll look into those glock 45 cals....and if I don't like it, I'll have the USP to fall back on.

Your dept. requires you to carry a S&W auto? The only thing that comes to mind is "Why?" Of all the combat/tactical pistols on the market right now, why would anyone WANT to equip their force with S&W autos? Politics, maybe?

Nothin wrong with a good Berreta.

'Course, I'd prefer the 93 to the 92, but that's a little overkill.

92 is fun, takes a couple papers and a short waiting period.

93R is insanely fun... but takes a few thousand dollars, a $200 tax stamp, a few months wait, hella paperwork, fingerprints, and a full FBI background check.

but the 93R still owns the 92

I'd be torn between a 93R and a Glock 18C though.

But we're talking automatics here. It's not hard to make a decent revolver, but to make a reliable automatic, thats where smith has its downfalls.

Hey guys. I was just at the store looking at some firearms. I'm in the market for an off duty weapon to carry. I went there to check out the H&K USP 40 Compact. My brother has a full size and I know they are amazing guns. While I was looking at it, the salesman showed me a Kimber Ultra Carry II. It was a .45 cal...bigger caliber than I was looking at, but it was a very nice sized gun. I've heard a little bit about Kimbers, but not enough that I would buy one. Any of you guys heard of them/owned them/fired them? What do you think about them? What have you heard?
one of the guys i work with has a kimber 1911 .45(i forget which model) as well as the H&K USP.

i've fired it, along with the USP, and i have to say that i like the kimber a lot more. it felt like the action on the kimber is a lot smoother and my shot group with the kimber was a lot tighter than with the USP. most of the gum magazines have rated kimber .45's as the best bang for the buck out there. i, personally, would definately go with the kimber.
