All that said, for off duty carry, I would get the smaller version of whatever it is that you carry at work. Same caliber. I wouldn't swap around too much, because if it comes to a life or death situation, you already know the weapon from your many hours of training, its just a little smaller, and all the controls are in the same place.
The thing is, I'm not too crazy about my service weapon. Its a S&W 5906. As long as I've had it, I've never been crazy about it...theres just something about the feel of it that I don't like, but theres nothing I can do about it because thats what we're required to carry. I don't think I'd want a smaller version of it. Maybe I'll look into those glock 45 cals....and if I don't like it, I'll have the USP to fall back on.
