I cannot imagine the recoil on the Barret .50. I can imagine firing one will probably hurt like a mother fucker.

Self defense. It's the safest and easiest way.

Chances are, the people you piss off and you're going to shoot will have a gun too, if not, then you need to learn how to fight.
It's just stupid, I mean, the more guns, the more accidents, the more problems. If you're hunting or use it as recreation, all right, ok I understand. But self defense? If you're going to die you're going to die.
I'm not "anti-gun" i'm just "anti- lets carry a gun around just-in-case." Be careful, seriously. (I know this won't change anybody). People think pulling a gun out will keep them from losing their life and that very gun is the thing that kills them. The act/react, think later thing- is what puts people's lives in the target.

I don't understand, what do you have to defend? I mean, the majority of people never use their guns so why even have one for that reason?

1) Talk to him and try to get him to stop,
2) Have a knife and take your chances, or
3) Have a firearm and ask him to please leave. NOT shoot him, unless he is hell-bent on attacking you. The simple act of pulling a gun and verbally warning is usually enough to stop an attack with no-one being hurt, and also usually enough to detain the attacker until the police arrive.
I have 13 rifles, ranging from a 120+ year old Vetterli-Vitali-Carcano to a vitually new (6 year old) AK-74. I fire them often. I have yet to kill someone, to sell one to a drug dealer, or to have a kid shoot himself with one. On the other hand, if someone breaks into my house, they WILL be looking down the WRONG end of an AK-74 rifle, and they will be until the police come to arrest them.

Well, I know how they are obtained, my mom has a 92FS, of course it's locked up. But, if I was attacked, I'd give the person what they want. My personal belongings aren't worth it. And, if the person got offensive, I've learned how to fight people open and close handed. I didn't fall off the beat truck.
Why did you buy an AK-74 instead of an SKS or any other AK-47 variant?
Was it because of the Brady Bill or...?
My father has one heavily modified AKM. Yes, he has the right to own it, because the Brady Bill does not ban AK variants that you bought before the bill was passed. He machined all of the internals, and pretty such fires so damn smoothly.
Great thing about it is that he hardly cleans it. I would say he cleans it once every six months and even then, it fires well.

I bought an AK-74 because of it's calibre, 5.45x39mm. It is covered by the same laws that cover the other 5.45mm, 5.56mm, 7.62mm, and 8mm AK rifles, however mine is post-ban (not grandfathered, imported after the '89 Bush ban and the '94 crime bill) and thusly modified for legallity. I already have 2 Type 56 SKS rifles, and one SKS-M (factory modified to a 16" barrel and takes 7.62mm AK magazines
)
Next in line is a 7.62x39mm AKM.:thumbup:
