Double standard much?
Alot of the posts are saying that they should fly commerical. Now if you really want your politician like McCain to travel to Libya, Kuwait, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan and Iceland by commerical there is something wrong. First off i'm sure there is only a handfull of airlines that will fly to Afghanistan and i'm sure most of then even YOU would feel a little weird about flying.
Second The cost of upkeeping a old plane often surpases the cost of buying new ones. Espacially in the little business jets. The article does say that the fleet is aging and that some of the plane are actually grounded.
I think that there are other way of saving on this subject. I would certainly believe that buying the plane used a bit would save lots of money.

:werd: to those who said: Let them go through the same ordeal the rest of us go through...stand in the same lines, argue with the same ticket clerks, have their bags searched, get placed in a middle seat, etc.
Congress-critters (435 representatives, 3 non-voting delegates from the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and 100 senators) do NOT need security when they travel on non-military business, and when they need to they can fly on military transports which are flying anyhow, with or without them. Heck, we had a governor here in Taxachusetts who used to take the trolley to work, with no bodyguards or police, and a mayor in Boston who used to walk around town all by himself just to meet and talk to people. That's the way it needs to be.
Insulating these people from reality is the surest way to keep them out of touch with those they supposedly serve.

Every last one of those fuckers should fly commercial on any domestic flight period. There is absolutely no reason or excuse for them to exclude themselves from the public.
Unlike your country Tark our politicians are required to listen to and interact with the people that hired them for the job they do. They are not special in any way except that they have been hired to ensure our rights under the COTUS are maintained, anything above and beyond that is over stepping their job.

I'm out of this thread... let you goverment officials travel in fucking commercial. I'd love to see some american official flying to afghanistan on Air Arabia or Pakistan Airline. That makes so much more sense. Oh wait... those airline dont fly from the USA. ok so fly with Emirates to Dubai then a flight to Kabul.
Let them keep a fleet of aging and costly plane. You guys are just as close minded as CEO that keep trying to not spend and cut jobs but are too close minded to realize that their ways are actually more costly.
And Jesse you are actually the only one that made sense in this thread. I have over looked the whole asking for 4 planes but congress is bringing in 8. That part I did not see/understand. But still in the long run it will probably be cheaper. Investing now to save later is a hard thing to agree on when NOW is when the times are rough. But the goverment not being a private company it cannot really go under. It's economie can suffer if it's not carefull so i can see what you are pointing out.
Very mature to bring in my country in this conversation. How do you figure that my countries politicians arent required to listen and interact with the people? You probably dont know anything about my countrie's political ways... yet you start shit bringing this nonsense forward.

You're right Tark I know very little about your political system...the same as you with ours so why is it ok for me to sit here and let you make commentary on our system and yet you shit bricks the second I mention yours?
Your comments on this subject are of no importance at all because you have no vested interest in how our country operates or what it's political decisions are. Get real, why do you always fight the hardest for the bad decisions our politicians are making?

And I did not comment on you polical system nor the way this was brought up. I read the article and commented saying that it is normal for a country (any developped country) to rejuvanate their aging fleet. I did not bring up congress apart from saying that asking of them to travel commercial internationnal makes no sense. No country that I know of let their nationnal dignitaries travel commercial airliners. I also believe that keeping an aging fleet is more enpensive then getting newer planes. I don't see how that warents you bashing Canada and saying that our politicians don't work for us and don't have to listen to us...
