Gun Control

If I was into hunting I would buy a bolt action magazine fed .22 and leave it at that.

Theres no way you're taking down a deer with a .22 Unless you get a brain shot, or something. You can shoot a person with a 22 and most likely it won't kill him. Unless you hit a major organ, and have absolutely no chance of getting to a hospital in a couple of hours.

I am against gun control. We have the right to bear arms, and I would appreciate being able to do. Having my government stepping in and changing that to,
"You have the right to bear arms.
[edit]
When you are in the military, and only during firing practice or war times, and even then only when absolutely necesary."

I am ALL for the right to freely bear arms. Look at Texas..ppl think twice before jacking someone since almost everyone packs.
Where, I live, it's almost impossible to draft a passable cause statement. Sherriff is a moron and will only grant if you have been attacked or have proof that your life has been endangered. Most of the time, it's too late.
I really don't see a purpose for allowing pistols. Canada doesn't allow pistols. We do have shotguns and rifles for hunting though. I don't have a problem with hunters. If someone wants to break into a hunter's home that's their perogative. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be sprayed with 10 gauge shot.

if someone breaks into your house and you have a gun you are much more likely to get shot. Put yourself in the mind of the person breaking in. If you see that the people in the house are going to reach for a gun or have a gun pointed at you, you will naturally shoot them. If the people in the house just sit there and do what they are told, you won't shoot them. I'm all for gun control, personally.

but say you are right, the burglar does have a gun, and you do. its a slim chance you or the burglar are going to be in the same room while you are reaching for a pistol. if the burglar is in the same room, you reach for a gun, and a shot, at least you got shot trying to defend yourself and/or loved one. but realistically, you are going to hear the burglar before he/she reaches where you are at. so you will have time to grab a gun, tuck your wife in the closet with the phone, and take position across the room with clear shooting lanes.
just remember little liberals, people who break the law dont follow it anyway, so why try to make a law banning weapons in the first place?

Pistols, apart from target shooting, are designed to do one thing, and that is kill people. It's the same justification for automatic weapons.
It might even be better to just let yourself get robbed, claim insurance, wait for the police to find the guy (possibly), and then sue the hell out of him.
If pistols aren't allowed then anyone found with one could be nailed to the wall more easily.

but if it were easier to aquire handguns for everyone and not just criminals, the fear of not knowing who's packing would keep more would be criminals in line because nobody in their right mind wants to be shot.

There is no way humanly possible to hunt down each and every pistol ever made and sold in America...or to prevent someone from obtaining a gun illegally from outside the US and bringing it in. If a criminal wants a gun they are going to get one, and when they want touse it they will. If they know full well that others around them are not carrying guns the more likely they are to use it. I mean, come on, it really takes little effort to get what you want when you pull a gun on unarmed defenseless people. If guns were given to everyone over the age of 18 as a way to protect themselves it becomes a little harder to pull a gun and commit a crime. During the Cold War what was the biggest deterent to Russia from using nuclear weapons? The US and its nuclear arsenal. Why did Russia try and put nuclear weapons in Cuba right in our backyard? Because the US had nuclear weapons in Turkey...Russia's back yard.
My take on having a pistol is this. I would rather carry a gun and never have the need to use it than to be cought in a situation where I need one and am now up $hits creek. There are too many twisted and sick individuals that can acquire a gun all to easily and they are the ones that use them.

make a claim against insurance companies is well and good, but you will end up paying a higher premium because of it. its not good business for the insurance companies to always be paying out.
and why does everyone want to sue the hell out of the next person?
i agree with dvpgsr and blackmagic, if everyone carried a pistol, hardly anyone would get stuck up. and australia has backed up that theory. australia actually outlawed weapons, but guessed what happened? the crime rate soared, highest jump concerning armed robberies. i believe vermont has made it almost impossible to buy a pistol as well, so researching when they passed the law, and what happened to their crime would be interesting.
deagle, you have good intentions, and hope for the best, but i implore you to study gun laws in australia, vermont, california, and the virginia's. then compare it to counties that require some, if not all of its citizens to be armed.
