Default shotgun owners

I'm in the market for a shotgun, mainly for home protection. I'm looking for an 18" barrell shotgun. With those that have shotguns which do you like and why? what kind of shells would you recommend for mainly home protection? I've looked on the Remington site and Winchester site, are the Tatical shotguns an option I can get, or is it only avaliable for law enforcement?

I like the specs on this winchester:

mossberg persuader
remington 870 tactical

but you dont need a law enforcement weapon for home protection, save the money and get a basic 12 guage shotgun. pick up some #0 or #00 buckshot (i have #00) thats about 5 bucks a box. anybody in short range gets in the way of that, and they are pretty much fucked.

my primary shotgun is a Remington 870 Express synthetic, i use it for sport shooting (hunting/trapp) and it is my primary home defense weapon.

why do you prefer your remington over your mossberg? do you know anything about the winchesters?

used to have a remington shotty modified for QCB / entry got it off an ex-sheriff.

it was nice but had no usable purpose aside from sitting next to the bed.

any decent shotty will work and do a fine job

you dont need tactical shit. that just adds $ to the price

get a remington 870 for cheap with whatever barrel you can find at a pawn shop then buy an 18.5" barrel and slap it on. takes 2 seconds.

i paid 170 for my 870 w/ a 28" barrel and spent 100 on an 18". you won't find an 18" for less than 270 unless youre lucky plus you get the 28" barrel for hunting and skeet.

I did notice that it cost a lot more.
the winchester speed pump, and the mossberg are reasonable. the tactical is like double the cost of the other ones.

good point about having both barrells, one for hunting and skeet the other for home protection. thanks for the tip.

Remi 870, 18" barrel, pistol grip and tac light is all you need as well as practice on how to clear corners and room entry.

Best bang for buck, not all "tac'd out" needlessly and guaranteed to get the job done if you learn how to handle the weapon in CQB situations.

Pump action noise is the best intimidation I swear. Someone is in your house and they hear that, they just KNOW what it is.

i want some fucking claymores for home defense ... seriously

that would be badass. someone breaks in your home, you all retreat to one room and claymore the door.

and then taunt the bad guy so he busts in and boom dead

3 sounds that give me insta-wood:

2-stroke machines (snowmobiles)
moving bolt in a rifle
shotgun pump
