no I thought I heard a rumor that vizio lcd pannels are the same pannels that toshiba uses. does anyone know if other companies use the same pannels, like samsung pannels are the same as westinghouse or something random like that? and if that is the case that is it the video processors that make the difference on the picture and thats what causes the major price differences?

Granted it looks pretty good in HD, no doubt about that. The SD picture on any Sony 1080P TV is pretty damn bad.
uhh that's the point of the video processor. the standard def will be upconverted to 1080p. and why would one buy a HD tv for the SD picture quality? I don't know, doesn't make sense to me. SD will go away in short time so why even worry? if SD picture quality is an issue then I wouldn't buy any HD tv because all SD picture looks like ass to me on HD tvs.

i can only speculate but sony is a major brand name so it will always command a premium over other brands. also at least to me panel is one part of the equation for a good tv. this is no different than in the lcd computer monitor market where there are only 4-5 panel makers. however, picture quality differs greatly from one monitor maker to another because there is a lot more development and tweeking (for a lack of better word) that goes into different manufacturer.

then there is the design aspect. not just the exterior design. check out the weight difference between the sony xbr2 46" and the vizio 47" sony is a lot lighter. that's important to me might not be for others.

bottom line is if some people don't like the sony xbr2/3 line that's fine. but ignorance is what i see, when i see people make blanket statements like it's garbage, it's overprice pos, etc.

good info, so each manufacture modifies the pannel and tweaks the monitor to get a better picture. I was just looking for clarification on why each company charged a different premium, thanks.

So those Samsung people wait until the 40-inch LN40M81BD, 46-inch LN46M81BD, and 52-inch LN52M81BD models comes out. Suppose to have the best black levels on the market.

I would love the 52" but #1 it's too wide for the space. I have a media nook and 46" is the biggest that will fit

#2 over my budget :hs:
