I would love to have someone explain to me the difference between two identical tv's with the same features with about a $1,000 difference in price
and also made by different manufactors.

I dont see the point in spending say 2500- 3000 on a tv that has the same features and options as your 1500 dollar t.v.
All your paying is for the name and to tell you the truth those big name companies are headaches when you need service on the TV.

At this point every manufactor and their mother are producing good quality LCD's. Also, the advancements in technology are being applied with these no name brand tv's and last just as long as the top of the shelf one, and you save some money.

Sony, & Samsung warranty sucks......from the experience my co-worker is going through.

well the main difference is the way the picture looks. I can justify a few hundred extra for a better looking picture, but I can't justify a few extra thousand for a better picture. I'm mostly with you on paying out the ass for extra features.
and with all the advancments in technology, thats why I'm holding off just a little bit longer to get a TV. The quality will be better, and the price should be cheaper.

I just wonder about the image quality (specially black i hate when it appaers to be grey) and the viewing angle problem Rick was talking about. i should go check it out...
the angle problem isn't a problem for most people. but it is for me since it's my hard earned money i'm spending

I understand, but it could be a problem for me too, because of the way my living room is set up. how is the quality of a lcd projected image?

well lets see. the sony xbr2+ models have a signal processor that upconverts the non HD signals to 1080P. That alone is worth about $750-1000 or more imo. So you take that Vizio 47" 1080p and compare to the sony 46" XBR2.

Check the contrast ratio on the two. Huge difference.

Vizio is $1700, XBR2. $3300.

Add $100 for the signal converter so bring the Vizio up to $2700.

Now what about the contrast ratio? That's worth probably at least $3-500 bucks.

It's all a matter of opinion and IMO if you have the money the Sony is a better buy. Sony has the features that other manufacturer do not have and it's worth the premium IMO.

do you have a lot of natural light coming into the room? if so, you might not like it too much. even the top of the line 60" Sony have okay picture at best if there are natural light coming either directly behind you (so light coming in facing the tv) or from the side of the screen.

If you have a relatively dark room then you probably wont complain. I've noticed that most retail places will put the LCD or DLP projector tvs in an enclosed room and keep the room darker than the rest of the store.
