I think the reason you may catch shit is because to a lot of people out here modding their car involves picking an item off the shelf and putting it in or on their car. I have a bit more open mind than some possibly because of the amount of time I have spent around a wide variety of vehicles in various forms of bastardization.

I will say this though...your cost estimate of $1200 is extremely conservative, I am almost positive that to do this is going to run a final bill closer to $10k and I also think that from reading your plan of action you are not quite as prepared to go into this as you think.

do a shit load of research into the design of this thing including torsional ridgidity issues, suspension (notably front end) issues and a realistic traction setup for the rear. there is more but I got shit to do and I am not going to handhold anyone through this kind of research.

I once drove a smallblock powered Civic 1/8 of a mile down a road before I shut it down and walked back telling the guy he can kick rocks if he wants me on the 1/4 mile driving the thing.
:werd: Listen to this man

I've designed and built 4 cars from the ground up (with other people), and let me tell you, it takes a lot of time and a lot of money. What you're doing is not that far off from building a car from the ground up. I hope you can weld, grind, and machine, because you are going to be making a lot of custom frame and suspension pieces. I guarantee you this project will sink every free hour you have for at least a year, if not more. At some point, you're going to have to ask yourself if it's worth it to drop a 5.0 into a Prelude.

He's keeping it FWD.

Your kidding...

No disrespect, everybody has ideas. Just be realistic here, You say you have the skills then I respect that. But there is no way on earth that you are going to accomplish this task with the budget you claim. Like I said, post pics & info when you get to it. Drawings & research would give you some more support too! (not to prove you wrong, I am honestly interested)

This may be of interest to you, a RWD Mid Engine h22 powered integra. Just look at his fabrication, he documented everything step by step. http://www.team-integra.net/forum/di...TopicID=106670

I don't see it possibly staying FWD.

This would mean adapting basically a Taurus front end under a Prelude (yes the Taurus tranny will handle the 5.0) and I believe the size constraints will be pushing the firewall back considerably not just to accomodate the engine but also the transmission.

The location of the engine (off the top of my head) will be way too far forward to address any cooling system, in fact he will have to remove the radiator and fabricate a new cross support and move the engine forward to get the Taurus axles to go to stock Lude locations. Then he will have to design new crossmembers and fabricate the motor mounts for the vehicle.

The easiest way and most realistic is a RWD setup using a shortened Ford 9 or the 8.8 out of an Explorer.

I agree, i've been keeping up since day 1. I'd like to see the car in person.

My dad has the engineering ability to accomplish something like that, but he refuses to work on anything not American. He is incredibly bias. Navy, 10 years in Aircraft Manufacturing, Research and Development industry and now the FAA. For what ever reason he stick's with restorations.
