can someone of canadan descent please explain this to me?
actually 2 things, the majority of blank CD sold are used for music.
secondly, we have a photo shop, and as ost of you know CDs are used alot in the photo industry nowadays. The cd's we use dont have that levy... and we can't use them for anything else but putting photos on them. if we are caught using them for something else the penalty is very high.
to compensate music creators, whose work might be copied for private use.
Complete fucking horseshit. I only used blank dvds for data, so why the fuck should music creators be compensated?
Next, you will be driving along and pulled over...why? You will be handed a speeding ticket, because you might be speeding.

and it's illegal in the USA but it isint here... it's actually leagal for us to download and make CDs (for personnal use) obviously we cant sell them.
it doesn't make sense in principal, because you don't have to burn music onto a blank CD. and at least in america, you're allowed to make copies of legally obtained intellectual property for your own personal use. dunno how it is in canada.
but if it shuts the recording industry up, i can see why people would support it. that doesn't make it good, tho, because the recording industry is still full of shit.
i'd just stock up on blank CDs every time i went out of the country :rick:

edit: but you could put music on plenty of things that aren't CDs, like ipods. there are plenty of digital audio players that can read memory cards, like memory stick, SD, XD, CF, etc...
so all p2p file sharing is legal in canada? or just downloading...?
