Canadians support CD levy, survey says
A survey released by the Canadian Private Copying Collective reports that Canadians believe they should pay more for a blank compact discs in the form of a levy to compensate music creators, whose work might be copied for private use.
The survey, conducted by Environics Research Group, says that 60 per cent of Canadians aged 18 and older believe in the principle that music creators should be compensated for private copying of pre-recorded music. Between 74 per cent and 80 per cent sais they believe that a levy of 20, 30 or even
40 cents included in the price of a blank CD is fair to pay music creators for copied songs. The current levy on a blank CD is 21 cents.
The results of the survey, which was conducted in June, were submitted to the Copyright Board of Canada to support its proposal that the levies remain at their current level to the end of 2007.
TGhe survey also revealed that fewer than two in 10 people are aware that when they buy a blank CD, 21 cents is collected for music rights holders; the levy had majority support regardless of the respondents' income or education; and although there is no levy on MP3 players, 75 per cent of Canadians surveyed responded positively to the idea of a levy of up to $40 on a 30GB MP3 player.
The survey was conducted among 993 respondents. The margin of error of this sample size is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

oh... i guess it actually depends on the question they asked. as in, do you beleive you should pay more taxes in order to still be able to download music?
You know it just depends on the questions i think. Also could be
"would you agree to pay more..."
