Default Toying with the idea of Military service :skurred:

In fact, I could be one week away from enlisting into the USAF if I was so inclined

Though, I think I'm gonna hold out and see about the possibility of becoming an Officer, and take the time to figure out if I should make such a decision. While, on one hand, I would be able to pay for my law school... On the other hand, I would have to sign at least 4 years of my life away to the government, and potentially be thrust into dangerous situations...

Gah... I'm confused. Opinions?

That's the Marines there h:

Though, if they have positions open, I think I could be well suited for Intelligence and Special Investigations assignments :exnbp:

if you're not prepared to go into dangerous situations, you shouldn't even be thinking about being in any branch of the armed forces to begin with

I think you misunderstand me though. I should have clarified that my father died a couple years ago, and if I were to slip up and lose my life, that would leave my mother with just my brother... and they don't get along at all.

Just because I'm not reckless with my life doesn't mean I can't contribute to the safety of our nation.

I am rather determined in my life to not just become another statistic.

I would say that it's safe to bet if you join the military, you will in fact be thrust into a "dangerous situation" sometime in your 4 year career, and probably for about 6-9 months at a time, possibly more than once.

I'd pass on it for now. Not because of that reason though...

I'd pass on it because if you go in, you want to go in as an Officer. Officers get more choices, better contracts and a better idea and more stationary life in the armed forces. You get to pick what you do, a lot more than the typical enlisted man does.

I'd wait to see if we're going to have a democrat or a republican in the white house for the next four years...

Alright let me help out a little maybe. I just finished my 4 years in the Army the worst place I ever went was Korea. Now keep in mind my job was to load 120mm rounds on into the main gun on the tank. I've never been shot at and overall my life was not in danger. I mean it all really depends on what your job is. If you are military intelligence more than likely you are no going to have to be worried about your life being in danger you are nowhere near the front lines so barring an accident you are okay. My wife has been in Iraq for 9 months and I must say it sucks but she signed up and they said she had to go so she's gone. I have had friends die in this stupid war. Basically if you join the military do it for the right reason not because you want college money and you think your life will not be put in jeapordy. Don't join the Reserves and then bitch about being called up to defend your countries interests, and enjoy being places you will never see again most likely as much as possible.

once again partially true officers really have no more control over their career than enlisted members, obviously they get paid more, and they are in charge. Along with that they get blames when shit don't get done and truthfully no one respects them at first. A brand new Lieutenant doesn't know shit and is in charge so everyone who knows their job hates this man being in charge of them.

Just some food for thought and clearing up of any misconceptions
