I would say that it's safe to bet if you join the military, you will in fact be thrust into a "dangerous situation" sometime in your 4 year career, and probably for about 6-9 months at a time, possibly more than once.

I'd pass on it for now. Not because of that reason though...

I'd pass on it because if you go in, you want to go in as an Officer. Officers get more choices, better contracts and a better idea and more stationary life in the armed forces. You get to pick what you do, a lot more than the typical enlisted man does.
