I came out of the Army after 4 years with 2 bad knees and a fuked up shoulder. YES now I get disability for the rest of my life. Kinda sucks when you are only 23 and as messed up as I am.

If you go to Guam I'll send you letters and you must return...I've always wanted to get a letter from Guam.

The only thing wrong with me physically is that my neck pops a lot more than other people when I crack the joints... Sounds damn nasty

You don't need to be in the military to go to law school. Think about it this way:

You go to law school now, you pay the current prices, and you use financial aid to do it.

-or-

You join the military and do everything that comes along with it, then when you get out you use the money you earned to pay for 4-years-from-now prices for law school.

Sure, joining the military will keep you from having to pay off student loans. But you will be starting law school four years later and college prices go up much quicker than inflation. Then you'll be out of law school four years later than if you didn't join up and you will by no means be well on your way to amassing net worth.

Sure, taking out student loans will put you massively in debt. But the total billl for school will be cheaper. You'll be done with law school four years sooner and presumably making a bunch of money. In the four years you get from not joining up, you can probably make enough to break even.

If you're all up on defending your country, patriotism, etc, then by all means go ahead. But don't let the dollar signs be your deciding factor. There are plenty of ways to pay for college that don't involve signing your life over to the government and possibly facing combat. I'd be more worried about it now that we're going to be in Iraq and Afghanistan for the forseeable future and our president sure does seem willing to enter more conflicts. Maybe wait until after the election.

Yeah, what FatBooty said.

Except one thing....

Even waiting until after the election (say Kerry wins) may not guarentee safety. If there's another terrorist attack on US Soil anytime in your 4 year service, you can bet your ass you'll be sent to another country.

Go to college, amass the debt, THEN sign up for the military and have Uncle Sam pay back your college loans through the Loan Repament Program. The Army paid $30K of my college loans back in 3 years.

I was in Army for 9 years, 6 in Germany. Germany rocked. The rest sucked the big one. Kosovo and Bosnia is a toilet.

If your single, go for it. Married w/kids, no way.

I am in the Air Force right now. Out of all the branches of the service, the Air Force is the one I would recommend. The Air Force is a lot like a civilian job. I work 5 days a week 6-3 and i have to do squadron excersise twice a week, and the rest of the time i can do whatever I want. I can go to college, or get another job, whatever. It's not that bad of a life. I would recommend doing it.
