I would say no to miatas purely because they are too small and I'm not a big fan of the plain styling.

WRX = good daily driver, decently reliable, probably still under warranty, turbo, AWD, 4 doors, and more.
rotaries aren't unreliable if they're loved, the problem is most people treat rotary engines like conventional engines, if you treat then right they're more reliable than piston engines, that's why they're now banned from most forms of racing, they're lighter, more effiecent and hard to blow up as long as they're loved

styling doesn't matter, and comfort takes a backseat to speed

I dunno man, so many people I know with FDs have popped the motor or dropped thousands of dollars into the things. Granted I love em, but what makes you think it'll be any cheaper to insure than an RX-8? It has a turbo, less airbags, and is a 2 seater.

Are you sure that the hit you'll take in getting rid of the RX-8 is going to be less than whatever you pay in higher insurance?

yeah you say that now, but you can only auto x so much...you'll be daily driving it 100x as often as you'll be auto crossing it. the wrx has the best combo of comfort and speed.

plus, wouldn't awd be a huge advantage in auto xing?

It seems to me you've got your heart set on a rotary...so I'm not going to try and pursuade you if thats what you want.

gettin rid of teh RX-8 without taking a hit is already taken care of :rick:

the RX-7 does have alot more dangerous rating, but the 11k value difference keeps the insurance down to an acceptable level, and FD's with the factory recall maintence will have problems

wrxs suck at the autox without some heavy modification to the suspension

true i do have a strong bias towards rotaries, i'm not gonna lie, i just like them alot

WRX's aren't the most ideal setup for auto-x, i've learned that at from driving my dad's at the auto-x, they've got to much of a front bias so they push really bad, but of course i'd find a way to fix it somehow, the wrx i'm kinda leaning away from, just because it'll take a bit of money to get it the way i'd want it

So get something reasonable for a daily driver and get an old Miata or n/a FC as a dedicated autocross project.

if i were to do teh two car thing then the miata would be my track car and i'd get like an impreza for my dail driver, but i just don't want to have one car, because i've only got one garage space and no place to put another car

Well if you're looking for the best autocrosser of the bunch it's definitely the Miata. If you got an older one you could hook it up right nice.
