I promise that it's the clearcoat fading away. After it completely fades OFF of the car, then you'll see the color of the car. From factory...most (if not all) parts are primered black to begin with...so you wouldn't see white. I've worked at a body shop for almost 2 years, my dad has owned one for 17-18 years and he has done body work for 31 years...so I know what I'm talking about.

So don't talk like you know something when you really don't.

*Edit* Here's a pic of the original poster's car...but I pointed out where it's already faded to show you what I'm talking about

you apparently don't. most parts are not primered black. usually, only reproduction stamped steel parts such as hoods, fenders & such come primered black. and it's "electroprimered", not a normal primer. don't screw w/ maaco. a $400 paint job will look like exactly that. bite the bullet, and have it done right the first time, and never worry about it again. i may only be 17, but i've done this crap my whole life. the best thing to do is sand it all off. don't try to cover anything. have it sanded down to factory primer or color, either is fine. use sealer, then primer, then color, then clear. sand and buff your clear... good s new. it's the only real way to fix it. and the issue with the emissions or whatever that guy said is bull. the trouble was caused originally because everyone changed from laucquer base paints to the newer acrylics. that had nothing to do with your paint fading. your paint faded due to harsh conditions and an old style paint. that often happens when a finish is not taken care of properly (i.e. washing periodically, and waxing). paint requires some lovin' to make it last. good luck

also rogue, don't be an ass... we're here to help each other, not insult due to our little ego problems. and so you know, clear doesn't "fade off". it doesn't fade @ all. the color coat fades beneath the clear. the clear flakes off due to poor adhesion and poor care.

good luck mxl

The white stuff is the clearcoat pulling from the color. If you scratch at it a little you will see it crumble away, revealing just the plain color coat.

I don't agree with the comments about Maacos. My sister had a 300 or 400 dollar paint job from them and it looks beautiful. After at least 6 years it still looks brand new. If they do everything proper and you take good care of the paint job and let it cure fully, it will turn out well.

When I went through this with my car I was told by many other people that its referred to Cancerous. They said anything that starts out small then starts growing larger with time is considered cancerous.

If you look around and do your research about the clear coat problem you will learn that it started from the emissions cutbacks. I did a big project on this and did lots of research. Every place I searched, it said it was from the cutbacks in emissions.

what i was asying, is that the issue was mainly from the sudden change from lacquer based paint to our newer more modern paints. the steps are completely different depending on the company you use. many factories had trouble nailing the correct process right away. however... my main point is that neither situation had anything to do with the paint flaking off. the change mostly occured around 1986, and by the mid 90's car companies had figured it out. there are many factors, neither emissions or even the material change did not make his paint fall off

Bumpers, lips, and spoilers that I have seen have came in black primer.

those are included in the & such the point i was making was that they don't just spray everything w/ black primer. but if a shop buys a new OEM bumper, lip, or spoiler they come unprimered. just bare ABS.

i really only made a comment in the first place because rogue's attitude was bothering me. i don't think it was appropriate to attack papi_jay the way he did. if he'd been nice... iwould have let his errogence slide

actually all of honda's plastic parts, mainly bumpers come primed not raw. most of their other plastics come color matched ie moldings and mirrors. but all their sheet metal comes with an e-coat on it.

If you were able to read (or type for that matter) the whole thread then you would see that c_rogue only responded in the way to papi_jay because of his sarcasm in the first post.
