a lot of people just set it around 4900-5000 (again, all depends what ur car does on the dyno) so that when they make the 1st-2nd shift, they don't have to take it past redline so they won't fall out of vtec for that split second

i don't think that setting it a few hondred rpms sooner is gonna effect theengine much or give much added preformance
as always getting it on a dyno to makes sure is the best way to go

setting it earlier could do more harm than good. you could lose power and torque if set too early.

Perhaps, but all VTEC does is open the cylinders more and lets in more air, I'm not sure exactly what kind of oil pressure you need in order to do this, but I don't think it's a big deal since it's not too much earlier than stock. I think the most you can mod it to is like 1000 rpms earlier (if that) to kick in.
it opens the valves. :squint:

ok, think about this...in my h22a at least, when vtec kicks in i can really feel it pull a lot harder. So lets say my vtec x-over is set at 4900 so i dont' fall out of vtec on the 1-2 shift. the person i'm up against has his at the normal 5200/5500 whatever. He does fall out of vtec on the 1-2 shift. So if it were equal drivers, r u saying that extra 200 of rpms doesn't make a difference? even when i'm hitting vtec when he isn't?

not flaming, just stating my case

The reason you feel vtec more on the H22 than say a B18 is because our secondaries open almost at the exact same time.

And yes, if some one falls out of vtec, it will hurt their times.

Most people do not alter the H22 vtec engagement much (maybe 100 or 200 at most)

so 3500 or 4000 wouldn't be a good starting point for my vtec to kick in?

You would actually lose horsepower if you set it that low. I would never set it lower than 4800 on an H22.

Also, if people are falling out of redline when they shift from first to second and thats why they want to lower it, then they suck at driving. If you take it to the revlimiter and dont screw up, then you will stay in vtec when racing.

A VAFC is a good thing to have always, but not because it controls vtec, but because you can do some minor changes to your Air Fuel curve.
If you get one, get it tuned on a dyno.
But you are not looking at a huge increase in power. But it might be enough to give you a few 10ths off the 1320 time.
