Good call. Did they come with wrist pins, spiral locks, and rings?

I haven't checked for shaft play recently, but last time I checked, there was a very minimal axial play. Compared to the GT series turbos we sell at work, it seems completely normal.
Wiseco is definitely an awesome piston...that's what I'd go with.

As for the Eagle rods, I've seen some handle some good power, and some fail. Most people were sackriders when they came out, and then a few people had problems with them...so now people hate them. EVERY rod is going to have horror/failure stories. Look into the ImportBuilders rods, they are supposed to be really good for an inexpensive rod. They also sell Wiseco.

I'd also look into a decent port job for your head. It will make a HUGE difference in your application, at that kind of power level. Valvetrain...crower, rocket motorsports, whatever...not a big deal unless you wanna spin some serious RPM. Make sure you grab retainers too.

To the guy who said Wiseco is shit...I'd learn a few things before you go callin out shots like that.

Yeah, I've pretty much made up my mind that I want to go with those over any other brand.

Most of the rod failures occur at the rod bolts because of high rpms, not compressive load. I only plan on spinning the motor to 8500 rpm since I am running CTR cams and that is where I suspect the power to drop off like a sack of bricks.

I realize every piston company and every rod company has had their failures (both product induced or user error induced) but this combination has been proven in thousands of setups. If the budget allowed and I was going for larger amounts of power, I could probably get a "good deal" on a set of H-beam Carrillos from work, but the Eagles are a damn good copy for a fraction of the price.

I'll look at those importbuilders rods. I'd be curious to who manufactures them.

You think it would? Even at the elevation? The head will be step two...It definitely needs a valve job, new valve guides, and valves. While I'm at it, I'll have my machinist port it out a little.

I'll do springs, but not retainers. Stock ones are sufficient for my goals.

Thanks for the advice.

have you checked the pricing on Pauter rods? I have heard nothing but fantastic things about them, have a couple buddies who have run them with great success. I am not really a fan of the Eagle rods.

They cost as much as the Carrillos. I have heard really good things about them as well but $800 for rods just doesn't fit into the budget.

yeah I knew they were a bit pricier, but didn't know they were THAT much pricier. do the Eagle rods come with ARP rod studs already? If not I bet you could replace them with ARP rod bolts to help with the rod failure during high RPM issues they seem to have over other manufacturers.

Yeah, all the new Eagles come with 3/8" ARP rod bolts which has pretty much eliminated rod failures. They should easily do what I want them to.

Just out of curiosity, is there any reason your leaning towards Wiseco pistons over CP?

I remember asking for advice on my build about a year ago, and most people were telling me to ditch the Wiseco’s and go with CP because they’re balanced within a gram of each other.
