i-VTEC means VTEC with intelligence...it is a normal VTEC system with the 2nd rocker allowing to switch cam profiles giving you 2 engines in one...the i adds the VTC (variable timing control) which affects the intake camshaft profile allowing the engine to advance and retard timing making both slightly more power and a smoother delivery

you should know better.... i-vtec is merely a name. there are j-series engines with i-vtec, but they dont have VTC, but rather VCM to shut off some cylinders.... i-vtec really is just a name, it's there so they have something to push on people... since no one really cared to understand the differences in the first generation technologies (dohc, sohc, and 3 stage vtec) honda gave i-vtec as a general name for all it's new technologies, that is until they find it beneficial to start calling them something else.

The K series engines all have VCT on the intake cam.

Anyway, the fit has regular ass VTEC and not a fake i-VTEC or a real i-VTEC or whatever.

again, as technology improves you'll see smaller engines pushing out more power than previous versions.

Im sure the technology wasnt advanced in 91 - 92 as it is now.

Plus emissions and NVH requirements are about 100 times stricter.

i do not agree with you that i-vtec is just some badge they threw on items but had no real technology behind it (that's like ford calling its engine ztec just to trick customers) at items...i-vtec seems to have a commonality between VTEC (accord v6 have sohc vtec including the hybrid) and another technology that improves upon it, thus:

the accord hybrid with sohc vtec v6 engine and VCM is called: i-vtec
the accord non hybrid is only call sohc vtec and only called: sohc vtec
the accord 4 cyl with vtec-e and VTC is called: i-vtec
the civic si with dohc vtec and vtc is called: i-vtec

the new civic 4 cyl which uses sohc vtec and no other major technology...the only thing i can see why they gave it the i-vtec designation is b/c it has drive by wire throttle

i got a stupid question
whats the redline on the Fit?
how does the VTEC work on the Fit compare to S2000?
I'm assuming the Fit doesnt rev anywhere close to S2000.
I didnt hit VTEC when I test drove cuz I knew I wasnt gonna buy it

the S2000 has dohc (intake and exhaust cams) vtec (3 stage system) made specifically for performance with a 8000 rpm redline (slightly higher for earlier versions)

the L15a in the Fit is made for lower end torque and fuel mileage with some spirited performance...it's change over is much less noted and no where near as significant...it's redline is 6500 rpm...it only has a sohc vtec w/ 16v where the intake side is adjusted for more power but the exhaust size is not...it also has a much slimmer design than the d series engine it replaced

I can't believe I'm seeing spirited and fit in the same post.
