i do not agree with you that i-vtec is just some badge they threw on items but had no real technology behind it (that's like ford calling its engine ztec just to trick customers) at items...i-vtec seems to have a commonality between VTEC (accord v6 have sohc vtec including the hybrid) and another technology that improves upon it, thus:
the accord hybrid with sohc vtec v6 engine and VCM is called: i-vtec
the accord non hybrid is only call sohc vtec and only called: sohc vtec
the accord 4 cyl with vtec-e and VTC is called: i-vtec
the civic si with dohc vtec and vtc is called: i-vtec
the new civic 4 cyl which uses sohc vtec and no other major technology...the only thing i can see why they gave it the i-vtec designation is b/c it has drive by wire throttle
