you should know better.... i-vtec is merely a name. there are j-series engines with i-vtec, but they dont have VTC, but rather VCM to shut off some cylinders.... i-vtec really is just a name, it's there so they have something to push on people... since no one really cared to understand the differences in the first generation technologies (dohc, sohc, and 3 stage vtec) honda gave i-vtec as a general name for all it's new technologies, that is until they find it beneficial to start calling them something else.
