Why are you trying to compare your engine to the fits? Dont flatter your self into thinking that the same engine with ivtec only has 7 extra hp, the 1.5 fit engine just has vtec b/c its more effiecient not b/c they were trying to get monster numbers out of it.

actually, it has vtec only because the car came out 7 years ago and they haven't updated it yet. and the motor is probably near identical to the old d series. i think it's just a new d series. in fact, they're redesigning it in 2 years.

to set the record straight the L series engines are only a few years old.

they come in 1.2, 1.3 and 1.5 liter models.

the 1.2 and 1.3 liter models use a different head, which utilizes two spark plugs per chamber, each firing at a different time during combustion to allow for a more complete burn.

the reason the L15 uses a vtec head instead is to increase the performance to be competitive with other models, especially in the US market, where performance and torque is key.

don't get caught up on the name. i-vtec isn't an actual system, it's a name for all the second generation vtec technologies.

there is nothing wrong with the basic vtec system, it's the core of all of the vtec technologies still.

the reasons why they choose to implement the most basic of the systems is most likely becuase of A) cost and B) gains

VTC in the i-vtec cars really only smooths out the powerband, not that it's useless, but in an econobox you really dont need it

i thought i-vtec meant the cam sprocket pivoted on the camshaft, on the fly. kind of like an adjustable cam sprocket, to further modify timing and improve performance/gas mileage? in fact, that's what the facts books at the dealership i work for said.

The Fit doesn't have a traditional V-TEC. the traditional V-TEC switches between seperate cam lobes. The new V-TEC for the fit it's timing switch is done with a hydrauliclly acutated valve that engages a second rocker arm allowing the secondary valve to stay open longer, which increase the combustion chamber's air fuel ratio.
