The Fit doesn't have a traditional V-TEC. the traditional V-TEC switches between seperate cam lobes. The new V-TEC for the fit it's timing switch is done with a hydrauliclly acutated valve that engages a second rocker arm allowing the secondary valve to stay open longer, which increase the combustion chamber's air fuel ratio.
i-VTEC means VTEC with intelligence...it is a normal VTEC system with the 2nd rocker allowing to switch cam profiles giving you 2 engines in one...the i adds the VTC (variable timing control) which affects the intake camshaft profile allowing the engine to advance and retard timing making both slightly more power and a smoother delivery
