Quick word about WWW.HMOTORSONLINE.COM
As far as I have seen there is no reason not to boost a vtec. For a good thread on the subject check out http://www.hondaswap.com/forums/inde...ST&f=12&t=4016 this is a pretty good thread with good arguements on both sides.
Well overlap is the reason not to... So you get special "TURBO CAMS" which disable vtec so what you have is a non vtec dohc monda motor... Look at the b20 140 hp.... Now what do you think the baseline for a 1.8 or 1.6 liter is? Well I would say a B16A with no vtec would hit about 130 HP
is that like the same as a ZC??? yes it is as a matter of fact I have a frend who spent SKRILL converting his ZC over to vtec (yes it worked) he has B16A skunkworks stage 3 vtec cams and a "B" vtec computer... Guess how much hp he makes? got 136 whp which can only be speculated to have 170=180 ish at the fly! WOW thats the same thing a B16A would make with skunkworks stage 3 cams a CAI and DC headers!!! AMAZING.... I have nothing more to say.

b18b...a hole 142 hp
b18c...170+ hp
compare power off the line and through the power band on a na engine and the vtec is always stronger since it has a stronger torque curve with good high end.
btw
how many of you actually looked at teh turbo grind specs compared to stock on B series cams?

the "turbo" grind has more duration and lift than stock, unfortuneately it does not give more info about lobe centers...but all it takes is cam gears to tune out some overlap on stock cams.

B16A SiR II

Year(s) Produced: 1992-1995
Also nothing new or outstanding there either. So if you actually put stage 3 skunk cams (which would also mean new springs and retainers if your planning on revving past 7000rpm) a CAI,and a good header (not headers as there is only one head on a four cylinder)you'd be set at a bit more than 170 (stock) ish or 180 ish.As far as the vtec turbo question the is the issue of detonation due to the higher compression than non vtec, which can be tuned to non-existance and since vtecs make power at higher rpms, which is where you stay when racing,it can be said that turbo vtec will make more power in the upper rpms since that is where most of their available power is.All this is subject to different schools of thought and not everybody is going to agree, but the fact is there are many very, very fast vtec turbos out there as well as many very, very fast non vtecs. So really it comes down to personal preference and budget.
By the way H and K series are also vtec,so why say no to one and yes to another?
It was a ZC as in Jspec DOHC ZC.... Not minni me and I have never heard of anyone els doin it... Lot of work involved in that one der!
Why do I like H and K? Because they arent "B" ass motors... Im sick of "B" Ide rather have a "D" or a "H" <---- for damn sure.

Turbo cams DO NOT disable vtec. Race cams sometimes disable vtec, but not street turbo cams. And seth, have fun putting an h22 into a 4th gen, and a k20 swap into any non 7th gen is just impractical and stupid The way the motor sits in the engine bay throws off the weight distribution dramatically.

Ferrea has rocker arms that disable vtec, they only ride on the high lobe. I think its kind of a waste to do that, but I guess it is cause the head of the B or H series jsut flows well enough that it makes sense to not have multiple cam profiles.
I didnt say my frend used a "B" sereies head for starters, I said he MADE the ZC VTEC..... By having a machinist rework the head. It only cost him $450 to have them convert the head to a vtec one... Jesus
