Now what do you think the baseline for a 1.8 or 1.6 liter is? Well I would say a B16A with no vtec would hit about 130 HP is that like the same as a ZC??? yes it is as a matter of fact I have a frend who spent SKRILL converting his ZC over to vtec (yes it worked) he has B16A skunkworks stage 3 vtec cams and a "B" vtec computer... Guess how much hp he makes? got 136 whp which can only be speculated to have 170=180 ish at the fly! WOW thats the same thing a B16A would make with skunkworks stage 3 cams a CAI and DC headers!!! AMAZING.... I have nothing more to say.
Exactly which D series did he make into a vtec?mini me, nothing new or outstanding there,a Bseries head DOES NOT mate to a D series block without some SERIOUS remanufacturing. And as far as a b16 making a 170=180 ish at the fly, since they are stock from the factory with
B16A SiR II
Displacement (cc): 1595
Power (bhp@rpm): 170@7600
Torque (ft/lbs@rpm): 116@7000
Compression Ratio: 10.4:1
Bore (mm): 81
Stroke (mm): 77.4
Cam Design: dohc
VTEC?: yes
OBD: 1
Year(s) Produced: 1992-1995
Also nothing new or outstanding there either. So if you actually put stage 3 skunk cams (which would also mean new springs and retainers if your planning on revving past 7000rpm) a CAI,and a good header (not headers as there is only one head on a four cylinder)you'd be set at a bit more than 170 (stock) ish or 180 ish.As far as the vtec turbo question the is the issue of detonation due to the higher compression than non vtec, which can be tuned to non-existance and since vtecs make power at higher rpms, which is where you stay when racing,it can be said that turbo vtec will make more power in the upper rpms since that is where most of their available power is.All this is subject to different schools of thought and not everybody is going to agree, but the fact is there are many very, very fast vtec turbos out there as well as many very, very fast non vtecs. So really it comes down to personal preference and budget.

By the way H and K series are also vtec,so why say no to one and yes to another?
