im looking into doing a 90' Type R project in the near future. but im having some doubts. i was planning the typeR engine (b18c5) with a complete build up, and all the bolt ons, and possibly a turbo...in like 5 years. but the engine alone is gonna cost about 5k shipped to my door with all the shiit i need (axles tranny etc) and that produces (stock) about 200hp, then with the build up, itll be more. so the question is: other than the typeR (b18c5) what engines are easily modable (vast aftermarket parts) but considerably cheap with LOW miles, and good cond't??

thank you

b16a's are simple.....ZC's are easier then what people think to mod. You can find stuff easily for damn near every engine!!!!

the b18c5 is a great n/a engine...but not a great engine to turbo when considering the b20/vtec...there's lots of info on and with the same amount of money you are looking at with the fully built b18c5 you can turbo that crvtec and get 400whp and 300 and have it daily driveable

I'm gonna do a b16 swap in a crx. What do I need to do in terms of upgrading my brakes?

Rear Brakes:
what year and model crx do you have? 90-91 crx si came with rear disc brakes...if you have rear drums you can also get the who rear lower control arm assembly from a crx si (90-91) civic ex sedan (88-91) or a 2g teg (90-93...much more common)...these are also 9.5" but significantly reduce brake dive b/c they brake better

Front Brakes:
2 avenues you can take...ugrade your current 9.5" brakes for more powerful calipers such as 4 piston kits available for the 9.5" system

get a larger brakes such as 11" integra front brakes and even get 4 piston calipers for maximum effectiveness (www.fastbrakes.com)

All 4 Corners:
get stainless steel brake lines all around for better performance when it gets hot out (rubber is known to cause bulging reducing braking effectiveness)

the tegs are mpfi...but i'm not sure if they will swap over...the wiring harness may not be wired similarly...but it's worth a try...and there are tons more tegs in junkyards than crx or civic hbs
