DIY HID Conversion Installation
Nice write up, schmoo.
I've been wanting to do this...
as for you, JDMLyfe, also cool
There's nothing more annoying than when someone says something about a topic, and then doesn't back it up.
Excellent job with being resourceful.
my question I still have, is.. does "retrofitting" give you that clean cut-off you see in the expensive cars that come with it stock??
if that's not what retrofitting is... what is it?
also, if that's not what retrofitting is, what would you call, and how would you make it clean cut like that?

Retrofitting will clean up the glare mostly present on reflector type headlights like preludes and civics. Without retrofitting, the light will be scattered everywhere and blind on-coming cars. It won't be as good as luxury cars with stock HIDs because they have specially built projectors and auto-leveling systems, but it will be fairly close.
Integras have more of a projector than anything, so retrofitting isn't entirely necessary. As stated above, it will make a difference but not as much as before and after on a reflector housed headlight.

Ninjr4- Yes Retrofitting will make the cutoff perfect if you do it correctly. Retrofitting is basically taking those expensive car headlights and putting them into the civic headlights. if you shroud them properly then there will be a perfect cutoff.
Shmoo- There are different types of Projectors. HID projectors are made differently than Halogen projectors (what a Teg has) the cut off will never be perfect in a teg unless a retro is done to the car.

JDM, do you know what is needed and how to retrofit integra projectors to make them perfect for HID's? I have a set of HID's on the way as well, and I have projector headlights in my 98 GSR so they won't glare as bad as a reflector type headlight, but I wouldn't mind doin a retro to give them that razor sharp cutoff line like the S2000 and the STI you have pictured do. Thanks!
what i wanna know is that exactly i'll need to get some HID's on my car...i was gonna get some fairly soon, but didnt know that i would have to change housings and whatnot, is there a way to keep the stock housing and have a very clean looking HID's?
i have an 05 accord coupe lx...im sure you need to know that

OEM hids use OEM projectors and D2s Hids.
aftermarket projectors are usually made for halogen.
addint a hid kit to aftermarket projectors (or the teg, which has halogen projectors stock) wont be as good as an OEM/retrofit setup... but you can get away with it since it doesnt product as much glare as a kit in stock reflectors.
JDMLyfeStyle: IS300's also make use of an auto-leveling headlight to bring the headlight down when going up hill and up when going downhill to further ensure that oncoming traffic is not dazzled by the bright HID beam - FYI.
Again, great job Shmoo. Are these still working correctly?
