So its up to you to decide if the extra 100 bucks is worth it. You are basically paying for engineering. I bought an AEM and im very happy with it. . .
Yeah, sorta. But an engineer would probably say "what is the point of changing that was already engineered for simple transporation- the gains (1-2hp) are not worth the troubles and increase in volume. do you think you can do better than the honda engineers?"

That's what my dad says about modifying my AV6, but I disgree. I think the louder sound in vtec is worth it.

go aem... if anyone took the time to do some research you would see that a lot has gone into it's design...

Actually, I think you'll find the majority of engineers (myself included) can find numerous ways to improve what they are working on or make it more reliable. What you have to consider about honda is the purpose for which their part is made. Engineers do things by design and specifications. If they are told to build an airbox thats very quiet, will allow a certain amount of airflow, and is redundant despite the filter getting clogged with water, all while keeping it cheap for manufacturing, 9 out of 10 engineers will build you something like a stock honda airbox.

Now if you change the requirements and say, we dont care about price or hydrolock, we just wanna go fast, you get the engineers at AEM or similar performance companies. Engineers do the job to specification, and most of them like what they build to work better than it was planned to.

As for you guys who say a pipe is a pipe, ill tell you what i told that fool a couple of months ago. You guys think the V2 is just a pipe right? Go read up on something called the helmholtz resonator and then take two or three years of calculus and physics like I have. If you can still tell me its not possible for one pipe to be better than the other, ill respect what you have to say, but I know there are people on this board who talk out of their ass because prices are inflated and not because they know anything about physics. Believe it or not, some of the guys who design this shit can do it because they;ve learned everything there is to know about it. If its not true, why do we not all have PVC intakes scratchbuilt from home depot. :fawk:

Because we are all slaves to advertising and cool factor by having the best name brand parts.

Anyone can fake a Dyno chart to make their product look better than another...they have been doing it for years so why change now?

Yeah I agree.

Over at s2ki.com, Doug Hayashi (the guy at NSX files with the f355, supercharged NSX and s2) beat a lot of modified s2's with his near stock s2.

He only had intake, straight pipe exhaust and hoosiers. Best mod is to improve your own driving skills.

If I had an s2 I wouldn't heavily modify it either until I could take the car to it's limits.

:werd:

"but they said so in SCC or honda tuning... it must be true" :chuckles:

The intake argument will be beaten into the ground.

I've thought on both sides of the argument, a pipe is a pipe and you get what you pay for...

Instead of repeating what was said above, you ultimately get what you pay for... but then again... you can't be foolish in expecting large gains from ANY intake, exhaust, header. $0.02.
