Rims For 4th gen Offset etc........?
Ok I asked a few questions about this in another thread but it is getting to the point where I have alot of ?'s so I don't want to turn his thread into my own.... Here is the thing. I have a 1991 Honda Accord Lx Coupe, I bought some 18x7 rims with a 38 offset. I am being told these are gonna rub like crazy with a 1 to 2 finger gap between the tire and fender. They told me to get 215/35/18 tires. But if this is going to rub AT ALL EVEN QUESTIONABLE I do not want to do it. I will see if Discount Tire will let me return them I bought them about 6 months ago and never got tires for them yet they are still in the boxes, so I am happy to be finding out all this info now before I mounted them and screweed the hopes for an exchange when I found out I rubbed. Please leave me any and all advice you can on what I should do. I was thinking about just trading them for some 17's with a better offset if that is what I need, since they are still brand new if they won't take them back.. Do you think I should go 17's on my 91 or 18's and what like 17x7 17x7.5 18x7 18x7.5 and what offset would there be no questions about me rubbing I do not want any chances..... Also what exactly is offset like the higher I got the more the tire set's in the wheel well not sticking out?
Thanks so much I know I carried on quite a bit and probably lost most of you but this is something big I need to know, I mean hey it's rims right
Thanks in advance guys

If you want 17's get 4x 114.3 (lug pattern) +42 offset, 17x7 is perfect.
If you want 18's same lug, same offset, 18x7 is good enough.
+42 is generally used for accords, +38 offset is for civics and integras.
If you're so scared, go to a tire shop, ask if you can get 1 tire for 1 rim to see if it'll rub. Good shops will let you test that out before hand.

Well I know the 4x114.3 but my main concern is with offset you say 17x7 with and offset of 42 is good... so the higher I go in offset what will happen any negatives or positives to going to like a 44 or 45 or something like that versus a 42? And i do not want to go any lower that 42 I know that but if I lower my car to 1 to 2 fingers gap between the wheel and fenders with 17x7 and a 42 offset will there be the sligtest chance of rubbing? I want to know it will not rub so if my offset has to be a little better for that then so be it .Also what size tires would be good 215/40/17????
Thanks again
Thanks again
ok look, the higher the offset the more the wheel site inside of the wheel well. So if you have a lower offset in your case, your wheel will stick out farther. Therefor, making the fender hit it. The ONLY REAL WAY to find out if your rims would work is get them on. Now in your case if you DO decide to use those i would run a 35 radial for sure. But if you are not completely in love with those rims i would take them back if you can and get some nicer ones with a higher offset.
I don't think any higher offset than +42 will work on our cars anyways.
Recommended for 17's are 205/45/17.
Just lower your car first on stock tires, with a 1-2 wheel gap or whatever you want. THEN go to a shop, have them slap 1 17 with 205/45/17 and see how that works, if it doesn't rub then you're good.
If it does rub, then go down to 40 series tire.

Well this is what I am thinking of doing I already called discount tire and they said I could bring my 18x7's back and exchange them for something of equal or lesser value. So I was thinking about just getting some 17x7's cause I can get a little nicer wheel cause 17's are cheaper than 18's........BUt everyone is saying at least a 42 offset but how much offset is too much offset and what point in between is the ideal that there is not question that I will not rub, if I lower my car to 1 to 2 findgers gap between the fender and tire... Thanks again so all you help and patience so far
