Default dome light/keyless entry

I just bought a 97 Civic EX. Everything is stock except for the CD player. The only thing wrong is the dome light and keyless entry don't work. I have talked to a few people and they say it's because of the CD player. Is there any way to kep the CD player installed and get the keyless entry and dome light to work. Since I bought it used, I don't have the old stock radio. Any advice would be great.

i dont have stock keyless entry, but from the knowledge ive gained about civics on the internet (mostly forums). the stock civic radio has the keyless entry receiver built into it. and if you want to keep the keyless entry, you gotta tuck the old radio into the dash sumplace, and keep a power wire running to it, that's what i know.

I'm not sure about the keyless entry, but I was able to keep my domelight working without hiding the factory stereo in the car. What you need to do is splice two of the wires together. When you took out your factory deck, you obviously left the green wiring harness hanging there as it has no use in your aftermarket deck. (I'm almost positive of this one, but I did it like 6 months ago, so get someone else on here to verify the stripe colors before doing it) You need to take the green wire with the red stripe and the green wire with the black stripe that are in this green wiring harness and connect them together. You can do this by either just using a wire and tapping into each of them, or use a t-tap (thats what I did) and connect them together. Its nice, neat, and easy. As I said before however, I'm not sure if this makes the keyless entry still work...probably not. It is an easy fix for the domelight though. When I did mine, I just said screw the keyless entry, and got an alarm (which if you have a Civic you really ought to get anyway) with its own keyless entry, and just use that now.

Well when I bought my car and I bought my whole system they warned me that the keyless entry and the dome light would not work if I completely took out the factory stereo. I wanted all this to work so they installed the new deck but they still had the factory hooked up to the dome light and the alarm, don't ask me how since they installed it, but I do know that the stock is behind the dash area, right behind the power outlet. You would never know it is there.

why do those honda bastards do this anyway?
is there a "logical" reason they make the reciever into the stereo?

alright here's the deal with that. the stock radio is tucked deep inside the dash from the factory, and its really only a little plate with the controls on it that you see in the dash, there is no radio behind it. When your deck was installed, they probably used the wrong wiring harness. on 96-98 civics, their are 2 different harnesses, one for keyless entry, one for non-keyless entry. on the 99-00 civic, they changed the keyless entry system.

This is just another example of how the people who design cars are not the ones who work on them, and so don't give a fvck how hard they make things for mechanics/consumers. They don't care at all. Its kind of like how you can't change an alternator in a honda without removing the damn axle. God forbid they could put it in an acessable place. Stupid engineers
