UPDATE!
I just got home from discount tire, where I discussed these possiblities with a great guy named Kevin. It turns out that he does autocross so he knew all about the decisions I was trying to make. Basically, imagine Mike in human form (not just text on a screen
).
So I've decided on the Team Dynamics pro race 1's 15", the only decision left would be that of tires - but that's a big dicsion.
As soon as I walked in and mention 15" tires+ autocross he imediatly jumped to the Falken Azenis, which is supposedly a common setup. I then explained how I'd like to keep the same tires/wheels on for the entire summer, so we decided against these because they'd wear out too quick.
I'm currently considering the following tire, which should last a while and still run well in autoX.
Falken Ziex ZE-512
225/50R-15 - Currently 71.99 (on sale. Usually 100 ish.)
The HUGE line down the middle supposedly helps wet performace. But man, do I really need it? These are still considered all season, I might want to get just a summer tire.
What do you think? I'm excited about the tire being 225 wide. That'll be so awesome.

i run 225/50/16 falken azenis as summer tires...actually i can't take the wheels that have them off as i upgraded to a wilwood 4 piston caliper 11.9" front brake kit and can't put on my old 15" stock wheels as they don't have clearance over the new calipers...i've gotten 4 track events and almost a year of driving on mine and they are still ok...worn but not bad...they grip really well except in snow they are terrible (just let the car sit when we'd get snow)...but rain dry, etc these are great tires...no sidewall cracking either

Plus they are pretty crappy tires from what I hear in general. My friends have them on their WRX.My Azenis RT-215s have lasted well over 1 1/2 years with more than 40 autocrosses on the current set I have. Still has about 3mm of tread depth left. So now these are my rain tires while I wait for the RT-615s to arrive.
As long as you have proper toe (I recommend 0 front and back) the tires will last a long time. Also 225/50x15" is going to kill your gearing. Your car is going to accelerate like a slug. The right size would be 225/45x15".

But on the subject of tire sizes, I must ask you to reconsider. Prelude's stock tires are 205/50-16 and going to 225/50-15 would actually maintain very similar ratios, perhaps even shorten the gears a bit.
Code:
Tire Size Comparison Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference 205/50-16 4.0in 12.0in 24.1in 75.6in 838 0.0% 225/50-15 4.4in 11.9in 23.9in 75.0in 845 -0.9% When your spedo reads 60mph, you are actually traveling 59.5 mph
Although 225/45-15 would indeed shorten those gears even more, I think I'll stay closer to my stock ratios.
I hope I'm not missin' somthing here.
If you can get a set of 215/45x16" (23.7") Azenis. Those would fit. I actually have a set here in my basement with almost no tread (which is PERFECT to run for autocross).
Even 225/45x16" should work. Which are 23.9"

keep in mind what class you want to run
if you have a prelude sh you'll be forced to run in stx...and if this were so, i would go no less than 16's just because of the street tire selection...there aren't any 235's or 245's in 15's...but the new hankooks and azenis fksomething something provide this size...
225's are now also offered more easily in the 16 inch wheel...another thought to consider

if you have a prelude sh you may want to consider selling it and getting something that actually turns...
hahaa....j/k man. (i own a 2000 & co-drive a '92 4ws si). I don't know why you'd have to move to STX...in the 2005 rulebook both base and SH models were moved to D-stock--there is no longer any differentiation between the 2. But if you've got more than basic bolt-on's, welcome to STX.
back to tires- the old azeni's are going fast and their replacement is a little pricier. if you're auto-x'ing and want to go with falkens...azenis are where it's at. however, given the current cost situation, and if you're using the car as a daily driver and are gonna run through the rubber faster...you might want a more cost-effective option. the 615's aren't the cheap wonder that the 215's once were. the new hankooks look like a good bet, priced similar to the old azeni's (and they're giving contingency $! WOOT!). and on top of that, the hankooks don't get greasy in the heat like the old azeni's do. (I'm talkin Texas heat...they might be fine for you northerners...)
ultimately it's up to you. it's only tires, they only last so long and eventually you're gonna hafta replace them anyway. you might just want to stick with your stock wheels for now and experiment w/rubber. if you change rim size now when you're new to the whole auto-x thing, you might wish you'd made a different decision on down the road.

For a noobie you are spending entirely too much on stuff. Get seat time and get lots of it. It doesn't matter if you are driving a Ferrari because a pro with a Geo Metro will kick your ass any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Spend less on your car and more on attending as many events as you can.
