Default Official Couch to 5k challenge thread 1/18/11

Ok so its been about 2 years since I last ran at all so in a couple weeks I am going to start again and am using th C25k plan to get back into it. My daughter has decided to join me in this since she wants to get a faster mile time in gym class.

The basic layout is 9 weeks to a comfortable 5k run. There is an app for android or ipod/iphone that works very well.

So anyone else in for this? I figure start date will be in about 2weeks on the 16th of Jan (daughter picked the date).

Uhh wut?

5k is 5000 meters a distance which equals about 3.1 miles, a good beginners run.
I am starting with this and my goal is eventually a half marathon or 60 mile weeks

This program is a nice way to get into running. I didn't take this route but know a few people who've completed it with great success. When I first started getting serious about my running, I would attempt to do 5k per day 3-4x/week. I basically ran as long as I could without slowing down to a pace. It took me roughly a month until the day I completed the run without stopping. Now I run 4.0mi/day 3-4x a week averaging high 30-low 40 minute completion times. 5ks aren't far fetched at all, especially in our age bracket. I did my first 5k last April while being extremely hungover. I finished the race by zoning out and locking my eyes on the assorted female asses.

I love the benefits from running, these include:

-Higher energy
-Better sleep
-Helps me focus more
-Higher self-esteem
-Fat falls off of you in 2 months
-MAD fine ass bitches at races
-Last ALOT longer in bed

I plan on doing a half-marathon within 3 months and full one before the end of this year. I'm no authority in running, but I'd love to help anyone here and share my experiences!

I've run 3 half marathons and a handful of 5,9 and 15k's. Running is fantastic, but takes a toll on the body/joints. I am running the vegas half/full marathon in 2011. not sure if I'll do the full or just the half.

Chris is 100% right. You'll be running 5 k's for warmup runs soon enough. Sounds like a great plan John.

BTW, I use the Hal Higdon training regiment to prepare for my races.

I am in. My gf and I have been talking about how we need to exercise more. My problem is my work days are sometime 12-14 hours, so if I want to seriously get on a schedule, I have to wake up earlier.
