Default Gun Crew

So I'm getting ready to do some camping this spring/summer, and I want to take one of my air rifles. So, here's my question: PA law says that I have to have a CCL to carry a firearm in my car, but since air rifles aren't firearms, can I carry it in my car without a license?

Yes it is not a firearm, neither is a black powder gun

Oh and you can carry a gun in your vehicle for transport. In some states it has to be out of the drivers reach or locked in a box. If you simply place it unloaded in the trunk you should be in the clear in all states. If you store it in the passenger compartment I would check local laws, but this only applies to actual firearms shooting a cased round.

I am aware of this.....

Are there any laws that prohibit carrying airguns?

this

transport of firearms is different from the carrying, so long as the transport is done in accordance with state law you are fine without any sort of permit.

also john, some states DO classify air rifles of certain calibers with regular firearms.

Actually no they don't (I looked recently) and much like a black powder rifle you can buy them 50 state shipped with absolutely no FFL requirements.

They fall into that wierd area where yes they shoot a bullet and use powder to do so, but because it is a caseless ammunition it is an unregulated weapon which is why many former felons hunt black powder.

hate to tell you but that's incorrect

here in MI i know if it's anything under 30 inches it requires a pistol permit. if it has a silencer of any sort then it's also illegal.

in illinois anything over 700fps or over .80 caliber is considered a firearm and follows all laws pertinent to a reg long gun.

New jersey you cant
NYC you cant
philly you cant
and so on...

Man I researched it because I am going to be picking up a couple black powder rifles in the next year so I can return to gun season for hunting and was considering a .50 cal air rifle...not that this changes things but I totally missed restrictions. Granted California I knew about the blow guns and NYC is pretty obvious but the rest I missed in a big way h:

Thanks for clearing me up on that.

The rifle I wanted to take camping is over 700fps.....Last time I checked with the chrono, it was 875fps with a 5fps variation. So since it's over 700fps, should I be worried?
