Official: Final Fantasy 13 thread
from what i'm seeing the game doesnt really pick up till sometime after chapter 3. before that it's all tutorials and game learning
That's generally how they go. They really make sure you are accustomed to the battle system and ranking system before throwing you into the fire.
This is exactly why I'm not going to buy MW2. Or BFBC2. Or anything like that.
I'm sure it's a fun game, but it's the same crap over and over again. I prefer to spend the time i use to play games with games that try new things and break new ground. There will always be a modern-warfare type game out there to play, but there are so many other games out there with original ideas to check out.

I get what you're saying, but FPS online play is a completely different beast than campaign modes.
I'm only a couple hours in, but it sure started slow. Starting to pick up pace now
There's the misconception. Although the game might look the same, you as an individual get better over time. It is a different experience because the interactions on the field of play are never the same.

I'm not saying that FPS online play is pointless, it serves as entertainment just like how an action-adventure game would. But at least with the action-adventure game, you have a better chance of doing (and seeing) stuff you've never done before in a game.
I understand that basically every online match with an FPS is going to be different chain of actions which lead to a different outcome. But all of the ducking, sprinting, jumping, shooting and every other mechanic is the same thing repeated over and over again, just in different combinations.

FPS such as MW2 you navigate maps in an attempt to upgrade your characters weapons and abilities
both require killing enemies to reach this goal
there's more similarities between something like MW2 and FFXIII than one may want to admit but they both follow a basic priniciple of gaming
